very scared

I recently was taken to the hospital with a svt, my heart rate was 300 and I was given adenisone
to get my heart back into normal rhythm.  Has anyone had a heart rate this high?  I was so scared and
now just so anxious that it will happen again.  I am on digoxin daily but was also advised to get an
ablation.  Any info would be helpful!  Thank-you.

Hi there...

You beat me by 60... My highest was 240 and I thought that was high!!!

I've been told I am a candidate for an ablation but before having one I have decided to see if quitting caffeine helps... So far I'm almost a full year with no episode :) June 15th, 2007 was my last episode and I quit caffeine on the spot. I was having 3 coffees a day and I really think it might have been the trigger for me... I do however get a couple of flutters each month where it feels like I'm going to have an episode but it doesn't happen, maybe if I had 3 coffees in me it would? I'm not sure...

Good Luck!!!

Wow 300 BPM is real scary....I bet your anxiety contributed to the high heart rate.  When your heart rate can be controlled by adenosine, then you are surely a canidate for an ablation.  I had SVT for 2 years before I decided that I couldn't live like this anymore.  I was totally consumed by this disorder and it limited my life so.

Now that I have had the ablation, I'm truly sorry that I waited so long, it isn't nearly as bad as it sounds and it surely isn't as scary as an SVT episode!

I took beta blockers before I decided having the ablation, hoping that it would preven episodes, but it didn't.  And I hated the way the BB made me feel and the weight gain behind taking them.  Now I'm exercising  vigorously to lose the added 15 pounds and I'm not worried about my heart at all.

Everyone who has had a ablation has lived to tell of their experience!  Do give it very serious thought...consider it, it is far better than living with SVT and never knowing where you going to be when the next episode happens...and it will happen again.  The ER, adenosine, ER staff not really understanding that you are not in danger of a heartattack and you don't need to stay over  to be monitored overnight.

Best Wishes to you and if I can answer any questions about the procedure or my SVT, I'd  be more than happy to share,

Rose

mine got up to 220 bpm, for 6 hours.  never gone that as high as 300.
im having an ablation done, don't want to stay on drugs for the rest of my life, just want my life back now!  attacks started in January and within a couple of weeks they were happening every day for hours at a time.
tried lots of drugs, on flecainide at the mo but am worried it's stopped working as had really bad attack the other night lasting 5 hours.
i'm in England and there is a 3 months waiting list for ablation, think I have another 2 months to wait.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
