Kidneys blood test

My doctor advised me to maintain a proper hydration before coming in and redo my kidney blood tests since last time it looked like I was dehydrated.
My question is, are you supposed to fast (no water no food) before the blood?
It doesn't mention this aspect...just to keep hydrated. Are your doctors usually requiring you to fast before the test, or just go as usual ?
