I decided to treat at stage 0, gr 3-hep doc said I would never be healthier than I was (now 12 weeks, had vl taken today), good insurance since these drugs ain't cheap, and didnt want to be 60+ to treat. I cant imagine trying to fo this in ill health since sx are moderate-hgb at 9.1 now, wbc 2.0. Weigh options carefully.
There is one oral medication that they are writing may be getting first approvals in 2013.
Sorry to hear about your current diagnosis, however good to hear you currently have no liver damage(fibrosis)
When to treat is always a personal desicion taken with a knowlegable doctors advice.
With no current liver damage there is no panic to treat, however many folks upon diagnosis feel they want to do what they can to be rid of the virus sooner rather than later.Where you are at in your life often plays a part in that (job, kids, family commitments etc)
The treatments are approx. 70 -80% successful and very often doing a 24 week regime(could be longer depending on certain factors)
There are many new experimental drugs currently in the pipeline that may be even more efficient and possibly with less side effects, however they may still be up to 5 years or so away.
Best..

yes. you can wait but ask your doc. I waited 40 years and started tx at 64. I was still F=0. I would not have wanted to treat with the current market drugs as I doubted it would make the aging process any more comfortable. Found a nice trial. If I hadn't, I would still be waiting.
I am the same liver condition as you and really wanted my doc to recommend waiting. But he really encouraged me to go ahead. There are other factors to consider. I going to be 60 next year, stuff happens, I have good insurance. No guarentee on when the drugs will be available with significant advantage over current tx, eg no peg no riba. This his horrible treatment no doubt and I don't want to fool you. I am almost done, but it's been very rough. I really want to get this behind me so I went ahead since it also bothered me a great deal.
Simply put, yes you have time to wait.
My hepatologist is excited about the future of hep C treatment.
Just watch the progress of your liver, don't drink alcohol, obviously, and take care of yourself.
