thanks y'all - SO with the 3rd drug we still do the full 52 weeks of peg/int? that's what is sounds like- ergh.
i am real oversensitive to those drugs now after 2 times around- i hope that something breaks for us. i was not able to work.....
I would consider a trial - maybe I should start a new thread.
I am wondering what the newest treatment is - I started to poke around last night but there is so much information.
I was Grade 1, Stage 1-2 on the bx done just before tx. I'd waited more than a decade after my dx before I decided to do tx. The tx decision is a very personal one. I was in good health generally, had a good support system in place, a flexible work schedule (self-employed), and then was offered a spot in a clinical trial at a large teaching hospital. I knew tx would be difficult, and it was, but I believed it would work for me.
I did not know about this forum when I first started tx. Now I know that it's a good idea to investigate a trial before deciding whether to participate in it. If you're considering a trial, there are some very knowledgeable folks around here who can help you evaluate it. And again, it's a personal decision.
Good luck, keep the questions coming!
to everyone,
can you all share what stage of hep c that you were in? i have stage 1 genotype 1 and my second bx 3 years ago was normal. the drs. asked if i wanted to do a trial but i am not sure when i should do treatment.
suggestions? experience?
Yes, I did the tx with Telaprevir in a trial, and I was in the group that just got it for the first 8 wks. My tx ended at 24 wks (with a starting VL of more than 3M!), and I remain clear 2 years after completing tx. It took quite a while to feel "normal" again but my hair is thicker and healthier now than before tx. My skin seems older than before tx but gees, I am older anyway! I also seem a little more sun-sensitive than before.
I believe one of the phases of the Telaprevir included and 8 week group. As far as I know, that was not part of the FDA approval for trt, and only the 12 week regimine has been approved to date.
"And which one is the 8 week treatment?"
There is no 8 week tx, at least 24 weeks for Incivek and 28 weeks for Victrelis.
"Has anyone finished with TX on either? "
Many of us here have.
"what happened? Did SX go away after done??? "
For the most part yes, seems to be the same as just SOC goes.
I can help with the part of your question that regards the drug names.
INCIVEK is the brand name for telaprevir...this is the one that you only take for the first 12 weeks of tx. After that you stop it and continue on with the Peg and Riba.
VICTRELIS is the brand name for boceprevir. You must wait 4 weeks after starting Peg and Riba before you start taking this. It requires a lead in time of the Peg and Riba. After that, I believe you take it for the duration of your treatment.
Hope this helps!
