Apr 06, 2012 ..You not only would have the same genotype and subtype, but if sequenced, you could actually tell different strains. Not all 1as are the same as other 1as. This is how they were able to debunk the 3-5% rate of sexual transmission that still gets quoted as fact. All the couples in that study who supposedly had no other risk factors turned out to have discordant genotypes or genotypes that couldn't have been passed between them after they went back and gene sequenced the viruses.

Most people with HCV have one genotype. You will have the same genotype as the person that passed it to you.
Thanks OH. I had ner seen that question before, so, had to ask it. WOW, you can have 2 different geno types in your system? another day in knowledge paradise here. BTW, got to spend 3 hours in garden yesterday and 2 today. So happy to be outside, protected of course. Thanks so much...Appreciate you!
Yes.
Think of hep c like different varieties of iris.
If you divide a purple variety it won't become a yellow one just because it's in a different garden.
(Maybe not the best analogy but all I can think of at the moment.)
This is why people can be infected with more than one genotype at the same time.
Someone else may state the actual facts better but just by chance this was posted on the Social side a few hours ago.
Patients have same strain of virus as earlier case

Sorry, I meant hep C from someone
