My cholesterol went through the roof after tx also, and I started with normal levels. My nurse suggested this was to be expected as I was eating a lot of fat throughout tx and now that I have cleared the virus my liver is now functioning correctly and probably producing more cholesetrol. Hopefully it will settle down and we are keeping a track on it and thanks for reminding me that I have to have it checked again :)
TX can cause a rise in triglycerides, mine were last at 800+, but the doc told to just watch what I eat while on TX. Tehy were normal before treatment and should go back down after.
Lynne, I’d trust the doc. A lot of meds aren’t good for liver patients, but sometimes the benefits outweigh the risk of not taking them out of caution. They can always monitor enzymes and see if there are any changes, can’t they?
I was told that extremely high triglycerides can trigger spontaneous pancreatitis; the doc said if I developed that, I wouldn’t be enjoying life. He had me start taking omega 3 fish oils, and said to take 3 capsules a day… forever :o).
Take care—
Bill
Good thinking!!
I ate a lot of fat too To keep the Riba down - I'm only three weeks post.
Thanks for the info.
Lynne
I started tx with normal ranges of all cholesterol numbers. During tx they all became higher. I contributed that to all all the high fat foods I was eating. 4 weeks after tx my cholesterol numbers are back within normal range.
