Thanks everyone! I'm really scared. So afraid this treatment is going to affect my job. also afraid the biopsy is not going to give me good news. But I have a really good hepotologists, so I feel I am in good hands. Just feeling pretty down about it all.
I was really hoping for a 2!!!!
they already said it above but again, 1b is somewhat known as the hardest one to
treat. slightly tougher than 1a. next easier ones are 2, 3 and 4.
go in prepared for a long treatment, in case you might need it .
I am also 1b.
It is my understanding that those genotipes are somehow related to different regions of the world.
1a seems to be most common in US
1b seems to be most common in East Europe
I was a 1A and also a 1B - have been SVR for over one year now. So it's not impossible...you just have to work a little bit harder.
Don't sweat it. Do the 48 weeks and get well, if your biopsy warrants it that is and you choose to treat. When I found out by accident I was already stage 3 so I really had no choice.
Keep asking questions - the more you know the better your odds of beating this crappy disease!
Good luck!
you should check out a couple of the websites for a more detailed description. janis7, hepatitis advocate, etc but here's a little info.
GT1 is the most common in the US. It is also the most difficult to treat. I am 1B as well.
The next step is a liver biopsy. Although the thought of a large needle being stuck into your liver is not a good one, its really not painfull. that is the gold standard of liver condition.
Hopefully the liver biopsy will tell you that you are stage 2 or less, which will give you the choice of whether to treat now (with about a 40 per cent chance of success) or wait a few years for more effective treatment with fewer side effects.
be sure to be treated by a good hepatologist as the advice that different doctors give seems to vary a bit.
Hang in buddy, I got tagged 1b 6 months ago and tommorrow I get bio results back. Doc says stage 2 without bio, and tommorrow likely go to stage 3, we see. just means we got to be tough
