I'm not getting one. When I asked my pcp about it she honestly said she wasn't sure. I appreciate that personally. I see the hep NP on Wednesday and plan to ask her out of curiosity but still will not take a chance with the shot myself. I will be hibernating for the winter.
This is a good question. When I treated in 2011 I was worried about getting anything that might interfere with the tx so I did not get a shot.
Patra is so right, I would call the doctor who is treating you.
Take Care, Dee
Thanks for the up-date. Please let us know what you hear. P
I have a call in to Mayo Specialty Pharmacy as to their recommendations and also my transplant team/hepatologist. I will get to the bottom and let you know what they say
AMama: After seeing your question, I called my hepa. (We routinely get our flu shots from PCP this time of year). Anyway,
All: Dr's Ofc just called back. He said NO shot now. Wait til treatment is finished. I am Gt3 , on Sol/Riba for 24 weeks - half way there as of yesterday : -).
I am not about to generalize on this issue as we all have different medical histories, etc, and different treatments - just underlining the statement to. CALL YOUR DOCTOR, before doing flu shots, or other changes.
Hope this is useful. Hang in there and, one step at a time, we will ALL defeat this dragon!!! Pat
I was wondering about getting it while taking S/O. I will talk to my transplant PA. I do know I was vaccinated for everything, hep A, B, Shingles, Pneumonia, whooping cough. They even gave me a bunch of tests on my arm to see if my immune system was working. PPD. You name it they tested it or gave it to me.
I haven't read or seen on here or elsewhere that a flu shot is contraindicated with O/S. When I treated with a completely different HCV protocol I was encouraged to be vaccinated for both the flu and pneumonia. If I were you I would ask to be sure and do it.
Hello, I'm not sure about your medications but I did have a talk with Dr. Concerning a flu shot during treatment, he said absolutely. Treating with sol/RIBA . Since I'm only 3 days out from EOT, i opted to wait, just in case of side affects from shot. I would call an ask either way. Take care. Mary
I know people with cirrhosis should absolutely get the flu shot.
I would give my doctors office a call, but my guess is it should be fine but that is only a guess.
