Hair loss...

Anyone on TX have any positive outcome with the hair loss side effect?  Are we all going to loose hair? I have a lot of pretty long hair, I start treatment 9/16, and now these things are freaking me out. I guess it's normal to freak out. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do to prevent hair loss?

Hair loss during tx runs the spectrum from, none to buy yourself a wig.
I lost some, not a whole lot, and it grew back. At first the new hair was thin like baby hair but then it was replaced by my regular thick hair, maybe a little different.

My hairdresser said hair can change throughout our lives anyway.
My daughter always had thick straight hair and now its very wavy,no one knows why.

Buy a gentle shampoo and good luck,
OH

I have had hair loss before on pegasys and riba. It thinned a lot so I just cut it all off like sharon stone. This time, I am just doing a lot of scrunching and very little brushing. I look like Benji but hey... :)

I started week 8 incivek and haven't notice any hair loss yet. I did just cut it shorter. The nioxon shampoo and conditioner will make it look thicker even if it's not. That the good thing about it.

Yes, my hair is thinning and breaking off, but it didn't start til just recently, (16 wks into treatment).  But it will grow back, last time it did.   that Nioxin treatment is very expensive.  I figure if its going to thin, its going to thin, I should be off the drugs by the time it gets toooooo bad.  I was going to get a cut but it seems to be breaking off on its own.  boo-hoo.  Very hard for a women!

Well I tried Nioxin shampoo for hair loss as some people on the forum were using it during their tx. It didn't seem to make much of a difference on me but don't let this discourage anyone else from giving it a try. I didn't start the nioxin till about half way thru tx, maybe it needs to be started earlier in tx to strengthen the hair follicles before the meds have their effect on the hair loss.
I had cut my long hair prior to starting, but then later wished I had not.  If I were you I'd wait and see about cutting that pretty long hair if you get to that point of having hair loss and then decide.   Maybe it won't be that significant, and if it's thinning some you can add fun things to your hair like human hair pony tail clips etc..there's all sorts of stuff laddies can do to hide some thinning hair, get creative, relax and have some fun with it....  my friend who treated never cut her long hair, she did get some thinning but she had plenty of hair after tx was over, so you just never know..

Best wishes, maggie

Hey! I visited my families farm land in Greely like 20 years ago. They ate Ostridge eggs! EWE! Haha! also, I like you're tinking. i think if we stay positive and upbeat about treatment, then it will be better for us.

i hear your sincere question and concern. if u look back on this site you will see many variables in terms of how much loss. most comments are by women. on the standard tx just about everyone loses some hair. how much and how obvious are the questions and where the variables lie. i believe the consensus is that shorter hair is easier to manage. at the same time long hair can be pinned up to hide loss. in my case i have short hair and it was evident to no one even family that it thinned considerably but i only had 6 mos tx and it did not even start to thin til the last few months and continued for another month after tx. lots of women like ny girl got wigs and had fun with them so it is very individual. i do not think such a concern is vain especially if u have to keep your illness hidden. so keep reading and asking questions. good wigs by the way can be found on the internet but try one on at a real store first to u know what looks good and fits as returning them is not easy. best of luck to you, babs 824 ps it comes back fine with in 4-5 mos

Yes lots of farm land and it smells like it most days. I started treatment 3 days ago on telaprevir. I try to keep it light, it is a serious disease but stressing isn't going to help me out any.

LOL! You're funny! Are you doing TX now? I am choosing to do Victrelis (Boceprevir), instead of Teleprevir. We'll see how it goes. I had family from Greely, CO, they have a lot of farm land out there right?

Not everyone gets hair loss, it's just like the other sx some get them some dont, I'm hoping that if I do get some hair loss only the gray one's fall out.
