Hep C and Iron Infusions

I was reading about how people with Hep C with cirrhosis should not add any extra iron to their diet or take iron supplements. About a year ago I was given Iron transfusions because my iron was low. Is this going to be worse on me as far as the Hep C?  The iron treatments did not work. I received 2 iron infusions within a 2 week period.

The reason it is not good to take iron for any hep C patient, is because iron helps the virus to replicate. This increases viral load.
Iron overload is a possible complication for those with cirrhosis that is why those with liver damage need to avoid iron supplements.

If you have cirrhosis you should be under the care of a liver specialist to answer any questions about any medication you are taking. Yes taking iron supplements can dangerous for those with advanced liver disease.

If you do not have F3 fibrosis or F4 cirrhosis then you should ask this of your treating physician.

However, as a layperson who has hep c and now living with cirrhosis as long as you do not have cirrhosis or agvanced liver damage it should not be an issue. But again I am not a medical person of any kind just a patient for an informed and accurate answer ask a medical professional.
