Herbs and Supplements AfterTX ??

Heres another stumper question...do you guys think its a good idea to start back on "eating healthy"(taking supplements and herbs)  immediatley after finishing tx..im thinking if we just wait till the magic 6 month mark and let the "after effect" of TX to linger inside us as long as possible.

I've become hooked on soft-boiled eggs.  I drink a lot of seltzer these days.  But I'm gonna kidnap nygirl and go out for cheeseburgers SOON!!!

Seriously, Rocker, I think you should use moderation, and maybe take some time to let your body adjust to the new "normal" post tx, before making any drastic changes.  You have some time to make a plan so don't obsess too much.

Another persons difinition of "eating healty" can be looked at differently be another person who is into health food..like i said before...im a health nut ..."one mans health food is another mans poison".....LOL "

My idea of a healthy diet is a cheesburger and a water, skipping the fries.  See - it does matter what your definition really is ;)

(Although now I"m on a "diet" so make that a half a cheeseburger and a water ;)

I personally had a problem taking milk thistle with swelling.  Becareful with that stuff if you're gonna use it right after tx or anytime for that matter.  You really need to be aware of what metabolism breaks that type of stuff down.  I've had problem with swelling for a long time even though my damage isn't extensive.  I'm just coming off of a big left leg from MT, xanax and taking too much, too quickly.  When you take too much too soon it's very possible to overwhelm your liver and create problems.  good luck

I was going to go "gung ho" after my tx and up my supplement intake.  However,  I started reading about thyroid sx's and had to back off, as some things just aren't good for hyperthyroid and I was borderline for being put on meds.

2 months post I continue to eat really well and do the juice thing, but limit my supplements to B-complex and Omega3, plus acidophillus.

I really think it depends on your state of health and any sx's that are still happening at the end of tx.   I will be going to a good naturopath with my next blood work to get his opinion.    I like to get advice if I'm taking anything regularly post tx (during tx I concentrated on blood building and liver/immune assistance food and supplements, but now I'm trying to mop up other sx's as well so am being a little more careful).

liquorice is toxic to the liver, in fact many touted liver vitamins are, I would be extremely careful, and do a LOT of reading, not just on natural sites wanting to sell you stuff...

google each item, then toxic to liver, and search pub med also.

Go for the ones most researched and proven to be antifibrotic perhaps, but remember every herb and drug must be handled, converted, and detoxed by the liver...sometimes the shear number of "good substances" can itself be overkill.

you lean muscle changes have more to do with your protein shakes than your supplements.
Do not take a multivitamin containing iron or high in niacin or too high in  vitamin C.

Well, we do know the PEG has a very short half life...and the riba maybe longer,so maybe ill wait for a month or so...at least until my EOT PCR test...i was reading somewhere that it important to keep up our own " bodys interferon" and anti-oxadants to keep fighting at least until the 6 month post TX mark

Are you eating fourteen eggs a week during your forty-eight weeks of treatment?

Nothing scientific here, but the body goes through quite a change when you stop the drugs. Instead of going "gung ho", after waiting a short-while for most of the drugs to leave your system -- after that, a gradual program of introducing supplements might be gentler on the system. That said, I'm sure some could argue the opposite as this is one of those topics.

Yeah, that's why the question seemed so inappropriate. If your question is" will what you consider to be an unhealthy diet as opposed to what you consider a healthy diet allow the treatment drugs to linger longer and thereby be more likely to result in SVR" - I'll go out on a limb here and say no - eat what you want with the typical restraints like low carbs with diabetes and low fat with high cholesterol. Other than that I think you can pursue your obsession with diet and supplements and whatever else you want to throw in there.

I am more or less doing the opposite of what i was doing with my prevIous TX,which was taking a multi vitamins and a few other herbs...vit D...licorice tea, flax seed, but not milk thistle (even tho my doc said it was ok)...this round of TX i am gone totally simple with my foods...i hate to mention this ...but stem enhance is included too in my after TX...i took this just after my last TX...maybe it has helped me before goin into this round of TX....

I don't know why you wouldn't be eating as healthy as possible all along.  Of course there are lots of things some of us couldn't eat during treatment but I'm really confused about the question because I took vitamins and supplements all during treatment.  ARe you talking about like taking milk thistle or something?

Certainly that one I would wait on but otherwise.....yes eat healthy and take vitamins.
