How to brushing your teeth at first days?

Hi. I am at 5th day of my triple tx.

I don't know if i am acting an OCD patient but i have to ask because i can not brush my teeth for 5 days.

What if i am now undetectable and i get re-infecte from my old brush at these days? What did you do? I will wait for rna until 4 week of tx and i want to buy brush for every day until 28th day. It sounds meanless.

Why can't you brush your teeth? Before I say a bunch of stuff that doesn't apply to you and without knowing more about your overall health or your gums I would point out that flossing is equally as important as brushing so you might want to keep that in mind.

You do not sound OCD to me.
Being on the first week of treatment with Telaprevir lots of thoughts like that are going to pop into your head. I wondered stuff like that in the beginning myself. The thing is you can't reinfect yourself like that.

Your question is valid since dental health is very important while treating. Try to stay hydrated and keep your teeth clean. I only say that since for some of us these meds cause dry mouth which is the breeding ground for dental problems and/or possibly mouth sores as treatment progresses. Just as an FYI in the US there is a product called Biotene (to help with medication-related dry mouth).

Anyway on the WebMD site it says "Replace your toothbrush about every 3 to 4 months, or when it shows signs of wear. “Frayed bristles will not clean the teeth and gums adequately,” And to "Toss toothbrushes after illness."

Still having said all that I was OCD when I was treating since I was so scared it wouldn't work. I think I actually did get a new tooth brush  when I was UND at week 4.

Best of luck. Try to check in on the forum as support is very important while treating with these heavy duty meds. There are people who understand what you are going through on here. You do not have to be alone with all these new and strange thoughts going through your head.♥

Hi there, I had the same thoughts/experiences while treating.HCV.  As LiveLife said, every question has merit and it may help someone else who is having the same thoughts that you are experiencing.
I replaced my toothbrush many times during tx.

The dollar store is a great idea!  I never thought about my earrings argh!

I  got rid of all my nail clippers, bleached (and ruined) my earrings and use a new toothbrush ( from the dollar store) everyday.  It gives me peace of mind and I had the same thoughts as you.  You're doing OK, your thoughts are not strange or uncommon!

I see the purging of "detectable" items worth every penny.  I'm taking no chances!  I want this virus gone and to stay gone!

I have 9 more days of the same treatment that you are on.  My labs are better than ever and UND so far.  I can't control what my post treatment VL will be, but I am hopeful for myself and all the rest of my fellow warriors!

Be well,
Sue

Every question asked on this forum has merit and value.  Don't ever feel that concerns you have are silly or neurotic.  We are dealing with a life threatening disease, and need to know everything we can to eliminate this virus.
The experts in the field are saying that we should toss out our toothbrushes, nail clippers, razors, piercings, or at least sterilize them in hydrogen peroxide or bleach.  Any utensil or item in which blood, body fluid, or forms of bacteria we come in contact with.  Also practice safe sex using barrier methods while treating, and also after EOT, until we are considered cured.  Can you imagine going thru all this and then becoming reinfected thru a tooth brush?   It has been shown that the virus can live up to 6 months outside the body.
Hope you are doing well on Tx, with few side effects
