Incivek duration?

Has anybody stayed on Incivek longer than 12 weeks?  If so, what were results?

I am Geno Type 1a  Hep C foe 30 yrs. VL 11.4 at start of treatment.  VL 470 @ 27 days after first shot.

Little sx so far. Tired, shortness of breath, slight rash. All manageble so far.

You are only beginning this treatment. I predict that by the time you get to week 10 you will no longer even consider taking the Incivek longer than 12 weeks. Besides, the risk of adverse events increases dramatically beyond 12 weeks. The rash can get really really nasty and if it gets systemic, which happened a lot more often past 12 weeks, you could end up with SJS or DRESS and you DO not want to go there! Please discard this idea now!

Agree with Hector.  As much as you may want to increase the odds for SVR, the trials have shown no increased benefits in extending Inc.  Depending on the time of your first UND, you might want to discuss extending the Inf/Riba if your doctor thinks this might be necessary.  Following is the treatment durations based on response.  If your doctor approved extension of Inf/Rib, your insurance should also.

There is NO benefit in treating with INCIVEK for more than 12 weeks. The virus if any by 12 weeks is resistant to INCIVEK so the PI has no effect on the remaining viruses. It is the the interferon and ribavirin that must suppress the remaining mutant viruses. Your response to interferon and ribavirin will determine if you achieve SRV or not. Not the INCIVEK.
It has nothing to do with the cost.

No time to play doctor. Let your doctor manage your treatment.

Cheers!

"i wonder if my Dr would let me continue for a few weeks more?

I doubt it as he would have to prescribe off label and your ins will not likely cover the cost. I am a little busy this morning being T day but later I will look for the exact stats and post them for you.

Yea that's what I've heard sx where increased after 12 weeks.  If you find those stats I would love to see them.  I guess the added cost vs the small benefit plus the increased sx did not balance out.  I've had little sx so far ( I'm at week 8 ) and i wonder if my Dr would let me continue for a few weeks more?
