Congratulations on finishing up! I'm rooting for your SVR! I'm several weeks behind you, currently at week 36 of 48.
by all means be optimistic, be optimistic! I remember I actually got excited (as much as I could muster up) when I was coming up on my last few weeks.
Congrats & best of luck to you.
Congratulations and thanks very much for taking the time to explain what your UCLA doc said about treatment extension.
I found I managed to get through most of my forty-weeks by not thinking of how much more lay ahead. Then, when I got into the last stretch, I swear it dragged out more than any other time and every day seemed like a month. I think it was the excitement, relief, and all those mixed emotions that emerged when I was close to the finish line that made it feel like forever.
Best of the best to you and your family,
Susan
Thanks so much to everyone for the support, good wishes and encouragement. We all know that this TX, no matter the time period is a monster marathon.
Why 64 weeks.
I was barely a partial late responder (frustrating). I was 75. at week 12 on my HEPATITIS C QUANT, PCR. UCLA wants to see 43. or less. I was likely un--detectable at week 13, but we agreed it was 100% certain for our comfort at week 16. I researched and read every study on extending to understand how the 72 week number for Geno 1's is derived. I then discussed this with my Dr, who is head of the program at UCLA. UCLA wants 48 consecutive weeks of undetectable test results for PLR's So for me it was 16+48=64. 72 weeks is not a current standard, it depends on your individual results.
I also have not found 1 Dr, or pharm company exec who does not agree that 12, 24, 48 and 72 weeks are bench marks used to rationalize insurance coverage via research studies.
There is not reason to extend beyond this algorithm at least according to UCLA.
I would have gone longer if the numbers required it.
So happy brain fog pills will be done in 4.5 days.
Thanks
T
to have a post tx viral load at 4 weeks is not recommended - 6 months is the old standard - many now believe 3 months is almost as accurate as 6 - so undetectable at 3months post treatment is the new definition of svr by many drs
What a great feeling to be at the end. So nice to be able to wake up and not have pills or shots to take. Everyday you will feel better than the day before :). Congrats! and good luck for SVR
Debi
Congratulations! Wishing you SVR and quick and easy post-tx recovery. I have 1 more week of my tx, and then will be done, too :) Feels good :)
Yes why 64 weeks seems strange to me did it get to hard?
I'm just curious why they won't be doing blood work for 12 weeks - most of us had it after 4 weeks. And 64 is an odd number what prompted you to that one? The interferon will be gone in two weeks tops.......you will start to feel better for sure. The riba takes longer but it too goes away (and you can tell cause your hemo comes back and it's like not being up on a mountain looking down anymore :)
Nothing important question wise just curiousity. Either way BEST OF LUCK.
Made a mistake -- I meant to say 64 weeks -- which is still a long time.
I'm so happy for you. Oh, 64 months is a long time, and I have so much admiration for you for hanging in their (Bill -- I have a lot of admiration for you too and others that spent a loooooong time doing hard time, I mean treatment).
You are at the end, and as Trinity said, you will start to feel better.
Yes, the drum roll begins, but I would be feeling pretty good and optimistic if I were you.
Here's to SVR!
Debbie
Congratulations on finishing your extended treatment program! I wish you a VERY speedy recovery and SVR!!
Congratulations! It feels good doesn't it? Even better when you finish the Riba. I also thought the last months of treatment were so slow. It felt like time stood still.
Good job finishing up, now the drum roll begins...
rat-ta-tat, rat-ta-tat... :o)
Bill
Congrats and wishing you svr. That a long time to treat. Take care. Dave.
Congrats of finishing. Extended treatment is very difficult and the last few months for me were the worst.
Hoping you get that SVR. You will start to feel better as the weeks go by. I could definitely tell a difference after a couple of weeks.
Good Luck,
Trinity
WOW! Congrats, you can only feel better from this point on.
