Liver pain SVR but with cirrhosis & portal hypertension: what's the story?

Is liver pain a normal symptom with a SVR (no more hep c since mid-May), end of treatment S&O june 27th and big appointment the end of next week to go over what's next.  I do not feel like waiting a whole week because this is new?

Is liver pain a normal from here on out symptom of the portal hypertension? Granted I did work all week and pushed myself a bit too far this week, but do not really understand what life with no virus but cirrhotic liver and portal hypertension entail?  Many of you have helped me along the way, but this is something new?  Am I to expect the payback of a hard week at work equals liver pain?  I do not yet know the symptoms to be on guard for the portal hypertension. . . My endoscopy this past Feb did not indicate the need for banding yet.

Does anybody have experience with this? Good buddy is kicking it up in Mexico, so I'm asking the group.

Thank you for any advice or info on how to live with this issue.

Best, dbz

Maybe it is all about giving it time; time for your body to recoup from the virus. But like hepc4Sandi said, I've heard the gall bladder is a common reason for pain in the same area.

Congratulations on SVR!!!

Your endoscopy was over 6 months ago. Those of us with Portal Hypertension need to get it done every 6 months. Lots could have happened since then.  Work related stress is the biggest factor to bleed-outs.

I probably didn't have Cirrhosis, but after Tx I had some Gallbladder pain, maybe because that whole area goes through changes during Tx, with the drugs and dead virus leaving your system. I tried the 2 tsp. of Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar in a cup of Apple juice drink and it really seemed to calm that whole area down. Continue to keep drinking a lot of water too, and keep a good diet too.

Congrats with SVR!

All cirrhotics will develop portal hypertension. That means increased pressure in the portal venous system. The severity varies widely. The main reason is narrowing of the portal vein branches by fibroblasts ( scar tissue). After SVR, the scar tissue is resorbed, the portal vein branches can dilate and the pressure decreases. This is why cirrhotics won't develop new varices after SVR, and existing varices may shrink. Early changes of portal venous gastropathy most likely will be resolved. Scar tissue in the liver can resolve in many patients. It is still uncertain, but wide bands of scar tissue may not be completely resolved. In up to 80% of cirrhotics, liver cell regeneration occurs, and liver failure becomes unlikely. The risk of HCC remains but is significantly less. So overall, cirrhotics can reasonably expect a normal life span after SVR.
