Biopsy Results in and question about Grade.

Hi All,

Just got my Bx results. I came in at a Stage 1/Grade 2. This was a little worse then my Fibrosure score but not as bad as I feared. Fibrosure sure said 0/0. I knew that was to good to be true.

I have 1 queston though. Does the grade fluctuate at all. I'm assuming that this is the grade of inflamation, which the report said was mild. If thats the case then it seems that if your liver is happy then this would change as opposed to when the virus was hitting hard.

Thanks

Which herbs do you take? I am currently taking SAMe and milk thistle. Thinking about adding Heptamax based on some advice from Hepatitis Researcher.

Lapis,

Thanks for the info. I'm going to Try the be kind to my liver approach as well. Seems like the amount of inflammation is something we have some limited control over.

Tippyclubb,

I'm not planning on treating now. I missed the boat on the Vertex trial. I'm going to watch for other promising trials. I am also right in the middle of a major project at work that requires me to be at 100% and will need to be for the next year or so. I've already been off my game a little from fear and loathing about this disease. I think I'm over that for a while though.

Debbie,

It was actually the Fibrosure (blood test) that I took. I'm still looking for a Fibroscan machine here in Houston. I believe it to be more acuate then the blood test. Although it does not give "garde" info.

From what I understand the fibroscan is not a hundred percent as clear as the actual biopsy, at least at this time. I know they are still studing it here. It is still a good result to have when you think of what it could be

Gook luck

This is great news, little damage.  You were concerned it would be more.  I am not sure about the inflammation question and will leave that to the pros.

Do you have any plans to tx or do you plan to wait?  I am S 1, G 2 also and decide to treat only because I got into the Vertex, No Placebo trial.  Other than that I probably would have waited.

From my own experience, the grade can fluctuate.  I had two biopsies 17 months apart.  (why the heck would anyone do that?  It was a requirement for a study I wanted to enter)  The first showed Grade 2, Stage 2.  In the time before the next bx was done, I eliminated alcohol and took some herbs for liver care.  The next bx showed Gr 1, St 1-2.  The pathologist seemed surprised at the change and compared the results to my last bx, saying there was a "significant reduction" in inflammatory activity.

It's good to have the bx results.  Good luck with everything.
