Then I think that "responders and no responders” can have the same side effects during the treatment, so the responds to the Interferon is individual with the treatment side effects.
Then the same will occur with illness after end of the treatment, responder or not.
Without the liver heals after SVR.
There has not been established any correlation between side effects from interferon and, responders, non-responders on tx or post tx.
Everyone reacts individually.
How the interferon works or doesn't work on the actual virus, has nothing to do with how the interferon damages your body.
It would make more sense that longer exposure of the meds would be more damaging to the body, but even that is individual. We have a member here who treated for 13 weeks and was so ill from the drugs, that she could only type with one finger and even that, it took her hours to complete her posts. She had to be in a wheel chair and was finally taken off the drugs. Other people have treated for 1 1/2 or more and could work during treatment.
So I still believe it is individual.
There is no telling why and how.
Yes it’s possible that the patients' after-effects are as varied as their individual responses to interferon. Like maybe "responders" get more side effects during the treatment???
I am not sure about that, and wonder because I feel very ill in the start of the treatment.
And I was a RVR.

All people who get SVR after the treatment would feel better after a while when the liver has started to heal. But many start tx without any fibrosis and chirose and some feel side effects without these liver problems?
I think a few of the after-treatment effects are related to normal aging but definitely not all of them. Interferon is a miracle drug that stimulates the immune system to work harder than normal. It also has the ability to alter several other body systems besides the immune system, like the endocrine system. In my opinion it can cause you to become 'allergic' to yourself, possibly causing some auto-immune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis and skin disorders.
Most medical people tell patients that the effects of the interferon wear off within 6 months after stopping interferon. That may be a reasonable general recommendation, but I believe that it does not fit everyone. I think that the length of patients' after-effects is as varied as their individual responses to interferon. There are patients who get back to normal after 4 weeks and others who may take a year or more. I don't know how uring the virus is related to extended side effects.
Also remember that many people who didn't have a very difficult time would never have thought to come on the internet and post on a forum at all.......it's really a catch 22 like situation where everyone is different. Some people feel good for the first time in many years after treatment.
It took me a while but after 72 I am on the track to back to normal...older with more older age complaints but at least I know most likely my liver isn't going to killl me - which was the goal to begin with.
Good luck chemister.
Would it be out of line to suggest a forum for Post Txrs who are suffering with Sxs so that we could all be in one place? Thank you for the link you Portann and Happy belated
Thanksgiving!
Thanks, this subject is very interesting. :)
