Platinum vs Gold

I have been doing a ton of research on Obamacare or whoever cares and I want you all to know that sometimes cheaper is not better.  Let me give you some quick background info on myself...51 yr old previous condition of NHL, smoker for 25 yrs, dx with Hep C 2 yrs ago...now you try and get insurance.  Had to go with my state insurance for pre-existing conditions and paid approximately 283.00 month.  I thought that was crazy but i paid it....way too cheap.  it was an 80/20 but my out of pocket for last year was $12,000.  due to all the tests pertaining to Hep C.  Mind you I thought I had some of the best of care from Univ of Philly where my Dr was tops in Hep C and Hemochromatosis.

I have PCT and Hemachromatosis which added costs before even starting tx.  Weekly phlebotomies and  CT's for approx 24 wks. .  Not to mention liver biopsy and Ultra Sounds which we all have.

Anyway, I knew it would be difficult to find insurance.  But I did finally.  You have to read the fine print on all of these platforms!  You have to read the fine print!!!!!!  Not always is the cheapest is the best.

Last year I was paying $284 and today I am paying $750...should I  be upset?  NO!!!!!!!!!  Look at the cost coming towards me..I have Hep C Grade 2/S3..probably cirrhotic now...did 3x therap;y with Vic..relapsed .can't take anything for at least a yr so where does that leave me?  Well with the leg cramps and nose bleeds  I am sure I am cirrhotic..what about liver cancer? Possible?  Yes I have other set backs.  I don't want to pay for that one!

So all of you wondering..should I save a nickle or dime...think about it. it's really not worth it..do the math!

The only problem is that I have secured the plan I just can't take someone to take my money.  First time I have heard that in a long time. Just like saying...we don't take cash "mam

Just do your homework and Math...most of all math

Just an update:  I was finally able to secure health insurance because they finally took my money.  They have changed their payment centers and it was all automated.  It probably took me 10 minutes to make my payment and the following day it went through on my credit card.  It took several weeks for this to happen but it did finally work.  Hang in there if you are in the same position..now time to find a Dr

Good luck

According to BCBS I have until Jan 10 to pay my premium and it would be retroactive to Jan 1, 2014.  I can't on through their website because they don't recognize me but when I call and give them my info they recognize my plan.  Then you "press 1" to pay your premium...and it says "all of our customer service reps are busy please stay on the line".  I think I called last week 5 times and each time I was on hold for an hour or more.  It's frustrating they won't take your money.  I will try again tomorrow.

Happy 2014!  Better things to come

I think I remember reading that you will be billed by the insurance company in the first week or so in January 2014.   This would include coverage from
January 01,2014.

Glad you posted, Jules. I know a few on the forum have been inquiring about how to go about getting insurance and what type/level to get. Your post will probably help some people with their decision.
