Post TX Good News

I know that while I was on TX that I was very concerned about some of the side effects becoming permanent, or not going away for months and months.

I had foggy brain, aches and pains, skin problems, ringing in my ears, fatigue, loss of sleep, loss of appetite (that one was a good one though, in my case), depression (had to take anti-depressants), irritability, among others.

Well, I'm happy to report that 1 month post TX,  most of my side effects have diminished.

I was Genotype 2b, and had 24 weeks.  My last pill was on 3/2.  The foggy brain started to clear within a week.  Energy took more like 2 weeks.   I am sleeping normally again, and the aches and pains and headache are gone.

I did have, and continue to have, some skin problems.  It seems like the riba rash got worse for a few weeks!  More itchy, and more of it (back, legs, trunk), and I developed some larger psoriasis spots.  These are all dissipating as of this last week of April, to my great relief.

The other, more serious problem that I had during the last 2 weeks of treatment, and continuing now (though it seems to be less this week), is skin infections.  I had an infection (boil?) the size of a cranberry on my chin that I had to get antibiotics to get rid of.  It came back 2 weeks later, but not as bad and went away on its own.  Then I got an eye infection which I had to go to the eye doctor to get drops to help clear up.  And then the worst of all, a huge infection ( boil?) UNDER MY NOSE.. under the bridge of my nose.  My entire upper lip was swollen, and I had to get antibiotics for that one too.  I've never felt anything so painful in my life!  I felt like I had been punched in the nose for several days.  I was miserable.  But, antibiotics did clear that one up too.

Now, I'm still dealing with smaller pimple like infections on my chin, and my doctor is currently testing me to see if perhaps I have staff infection, as well as referring me to a dermatologist to get these psoriasis spots checked.

But overall, these things I can deal with, and I feel that as my immune system gets stronger they will be gone too.

I can't tell yet if my hair is growing back (I had a lot of thinning, but I might be the only one who noticed that), and it seems that my fingernails are now paper thin, and have all broken off.  I figure that it takes a while for fingernails to grow, so I am just now seeing the results of being on the tx, and in 6 months, hopefully they will be back to normal (talk about frustrating, having an itch but no fingernails to itch it with)

Anyway, hopefully others out there will find some use in my experience, and I hope that if you are on tx, that you too, will have a good recovery after TX.

I will have my 6 months post tx test this summer.  I was UND at 4 weeks, and still at the end of treatment, and am  looking forward to give my SVR! post here when I get the final results.

Good luck to all of you!

"talk about frustrating, having an itch but no fingernails to itch it with"

That's quite a picture...what a challenge that must be. You need one of those backscratcher thingies.

My fingernails are back to normal after a year. They fluctuated for a while. I don't know why but sometimes they were really hard and other times really, really soft. Now they're just the usual.

Congrats on your UND and looking forward to hearing about that six month SVR.

Good you are feeling better. You might want to try looking into Manual Lymphatic Drainage, it definitely helps with getting krap out of your body.

I had a session last week and have noticed 3 improvements so far. My skin is cleaner, my sinus problem I've had for many years now is starting to clear up and I am starting to feel clearer in my head. Am going back this week.

It's good to hear that your sx are not permanent and that you're recovering from tx. I'm sure we all wonder what out recovery period will be like so it's good to hear some positives. My last six weeks or so have been the hardest of the lot and I would so like to feel good again. Good luck on the 6 month PCR.

Yes, the one on my chin, and the other minor ones that were on my chin were more like giant pimples (and eventually had a head that I could drain).

However, the one that was under my nose ... the head would have been right under the nose itself, it was 'underground', so to speak, and it took longer to heal, and only with antibiotics.

Thank you for your post! I am so happy to hear your sx have cleared up so nicely. When you receive further news about the boils, please post. I just finished my antibiotics this morning from a boil on my hand that started to streak red going up my arm. It turned out to be blood poisoning. I truly hope it doesn't come back but your post will keep me on high alert. Was there any pus in your boils? Mine did not.

I will be looking for your SVR post but in the meantime.....

CONGRATULATIONS on your UND!!!!!

Congratulations on your UND!  That is great news!  I think you are very lucky to start noticing the side effects diminish in one month that is really good!
I was told it would take 3 months for side effects to go away and 6 months for my hair to start growing again.  I think it was more like 6 months for everything though I did relapse I was not sick before tx so hope I can back to somewhat normal before I treat again sometime in 2011
Again, I am so very happy for you

Glad to hear you're coming back full circle.  Luckily, I have no long term side effects either.  Just the usual aches and pains that come with being two years older now.

It's good the doctor is testing the infection for staff.. MRSA may be the culprit.  Usually, if they find the right antibiotic it can be cleared up.  My daughter contracted MRSA and it cleared with the first antibiotic but came back.  As I recall, it was very painful for her too. They cultured it and gave her an antibiotic that was effective and it cleared up never to return.

Will keep an eye out for that SVR post.
