Celebration

In 23 days I have finished my treatment of genotype 1B with interferon and ribavirin and really want to celebrate. I've understood that alcohol is no good during the acute period of illness and during the treatment, but what about when I'm done?? Do I have to wait till 6 months after? I am a so-called "rapid responder" and have been virusfree since the 4'th week of my 48 weeks treatment...

Really you should wait at least 12 weeks after finishing and then check that you are still virus free.
If you did not have advanced liver damage before treatment then you can have a drink.
Your liver will probably still not be absolutely normal so you have to be careful.

You know there is other ways of celebrating than with alcohol.

Get a massage, eat something very good, buy your self something and the list goes on and on and on!!

Gongrats to have fullfiled tx !!

It might not hurt to have a little drink now but I'm not going to be the one to tell you to drink on treatment.
Some people ,including some doctors, think alcohol neutralises the medication.
You've been good for two years -wait until you finish treatment and get the all clear and have a drink then with a clear conscience.

I discovered my illness very early so I did not have advanced liver damage. I know there is many other ways of celebrating but after two years I would love to enjoy a cold beer in the sun ;) Of course I am a sane person and will not go out to party hard after such a long time of being completely sober.

Thanks for the answers and congratulations =)

At the end of treatment I asked my doctor if I could have champagne at my stepson's wedding, which was about 7 weeks post treatment.  She said, have a glass to toast the bride and groom, but do not go crazy.  So I had a glass and stopped there.  I think a celebration toast (just one) won't be the end of the world, but then after that you might be wise to give it some time.

Congratulations on fnishing tx.
