I haven't started treatment yet but was due to start January.  Now I have to go to see a specialist about my thyroid before I can commence treatment.  I am so glad I decided to start the ball rolling you don't know what the virus is doing to your body and what underlying causes.  I am just worried it will stop me from even starting.

There are several tests for thyroid function. Most doctors use more than one test to diagnose a thyroid problem. The various components of the tests help the doctor know what the problem is.

If your thyroid tests are are going down then you need to see your doctor and find out why they are going down. If they are still normal, the doctor may just monitor them. No one on the forum can accurately tell you what exactly is causing your particular test results. Only a doctor who knows your medical history, your symptoms, and all of your test results can tell you what is causing your lab results and if you have a medical condition that needs to be treated.

Here are a few articles and sites that may give you some information about thyroid problems and thyroid testing.

Best of luck.

Hi Pooh,
My thyroid was exactly in the middle of normal range before start of treatment, now its reducing (nearing the minimum level). What does that mean?

No, they will probably not stop treatment. They will most likely give you thyroid medication so that you will be able to continue treatment. They will monitor your thyroid function closely and adjust the medication according to the test results. After treatment, your thyroid function will probably return to normal, although in some cases this does not happen and you may have to take thyroid medication even after finishing treatment.

Many people here on the forum have had issues with their thyroid before treatment and/or during treatment. Some have stayed on thyroid medication after treatment ends.

"Thyroid Disease can be caused by many factors including hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone) and hypothyroidism (too little thyroid hormone) released by the thyroid gland. The direct link between Hepatitis C and thyroid disease (usually hypothyroidism) is unclear, but thyroid disease is more commonly seen in people with Hepatitis C than
in the general population. HCV treatment can also induce thyroid disease, but thyroid function will return to normal for about 95% of people who develop treatment-related hypothyroidism when treatment is stopped."
