I'm glad to hear that your wife received the life-saving gift of a liver transplant, and I hope her recovery goes well.  You did not mention if your wife's transplant was necessitate by hep c or not, but if it was, your would be most puzzling.

As others have pointed out above, blood is the transmission vector of hcv.  Saliva, spit, semen, and other bodily fluids do not harbor hcv and cannot infect you.  Even if for some other reason, you were to actually become infected with hcv (and that would NOT happen even if your friend drooled directly into your eyes and mouth), you being infected with hcv would not be a risk to your wife.  With her status post-transplant, my limited understanding is that the greater risks would be CMV, Epstein-Barr, and things like listeria, salmonella, staph, etc.   Best wishes. ~eureka

Lots of people worried about eyeballs lately, who would figure that? I had hcv and never worried about my eyeballs or soap or spit or any of that.  Guess I should have in the long run huh?

If someone spits when they talk then all you can do is play dodge ball to stay clear of the spittle.lol  The fact that the guy has HepC should not be of any concern because you need to have blood to blood contact and simply spitting in your face or eye will not infect you.  Your eyeball would have to be cut and the blood drop that came from his mouth would have to hit that cut and be carried into your blood stream (highly unlikely) in order for you to possibly become infected.  I say possibly be infected b/c his saliva would already be weak because of the dilution factor.  In theory I guess it's possible.  In reality, I'd say don't worry about it.

Hey belc, there is a chance you can get hep. c that way but rare, you would have to be bleeding on your face also or have a open sore, not a bad idea to stand back when he talks :).hope this helps.  Dan

Blood to blood contact...do not share razors, toothbrushes or anything that may carry blood.
