Ha! That's cute. What's wrong w/a 32 oz wine glass? :>) I could also see myself doing that w/one of those over-sized wine glasses. They always looked so elegant. I don't think they were meant to be filled to the rim though. (What good is all that air in the glass anyhow?)
Can relate to "bending the limits" on a single serving. My brother used to always say it was a 32 oz. tumbler for wine. I went to dinner at Morton's with a dear friend, both of us sober, but were wild when we were younger. We both took a look at the water goblets on the table and said at the same time "wine glasses"! I could push that to the max back in the day. An occasional O'Douls makes me happy now. No after effects (and less calories).
I'm grade 1, stage 1, treatment naive, FYI.
Mmmm, beer.
I did have some FRE alcohol-free wine over the past couple of weeks. The merlot was a bit unusual but not bad. It was the closest thing I have found to the merlot taste in non-alcoh. The white zin was pretty good. For you wine connoisseurs, I'd recommend trying this brand. You can lookup locations on their website: frewines *******.
I've had a few non-alc brews that were okay, but I'm going to steal the suggestions to try Bitburger Drive or the St. Pauli Girl non-alcoholic. I like both of the the alc versions.
I do appreciate this thread and it does tie in nicely with the medical issues related to Hep C. Giving up beer and wine (or "greatly reducing" alcohol intake) has been a struggle. My hepatologist told me I can have it on special occasions only, and then a single serving only. Well, it's too easy to make every day a "special occasion" and bend the limits of the single serving. Someone in treatment told their hepatologist that simply "waking up every morning was a special occasion". Though the comment made me chuckle and I could see myself adopting the same philosophy, that person had major liver damage and I believe was going to be placed on the transplant list. I think that for a good portion of drinkers out there, one glass a few times a year just wouldn't do it. ETOH and HCV do not mix. I hate that about the disease. There are worse things that I (we) could be dealing with though.
Agree with RGlass. My girlfriend took up social drinking after she SVRed. Not a heavy drinker, likes a glass of wine once in awhile, maybe cuts lose once in a blue moon. She just found out she relapsed after like 8 years of being HCV negative. I suggested to her she stop the wine until she gets back to her liver doctor and find out what's going on with this relapse.
“After SVR is it ok to drink every now and then? My liver is a stage 0 and I dont drink a lot but sometimes I like to let loose like 3 times a year.”
At Stage 0, Go for it and enjoy your life.
One thing Id like to know... After SVR is it ok to drink every now and then? My liver is a stage 0 and I dont drink a lot but sometimes I like to let loose like 3 times a year.
Oh, Gawd,
Goof is out to make more fashion statements with his socks ‘n sandals again :o)!
Frank - Really sorry to hear about your dissapointing Dr visit. That seems so unfair that they won't try to do something for you. Will they at least put you on a list?
Why don't you take your Florida water pot over to FLguy's Florida goose hatchery and set it under the egg-leaking eaves? Ya'll could set yerselfs up with a Burrilled Gooose Aigs stand. Just don't wear sandals with socks - I hear that won't go over so well there.....
I read Frakee's post about the sick gentleman he saw in his Dr.'s office.
I have a neighbour who has Hep. C untreated. I feel so badly for him, he is/was a musician. He drinks those 40 oz. beers, strong stuff, I think.
As Frankee said, he is yellow and very bloated, around his middle, the rest is skin and bones. Don't see him much anymore, I'm afraid hes given up.
All I can do is pray for him, maybe he will get some help.
I miss drinking too, I was a Vodka Lady, haven't had a drink since April.23, l993.
I hope I never go back to it! Some days are really tough.
Take Care - Lynne
I miss wine. I think I miss it most because I can't have it.
Yeah, I've grown quite fond of my liver this past year. After all it's done for me. I freaking LOVE my liver, lol!!
My personal choice (1/0 prior to tx) is to stay away from alcohol until I get SVR, alcohol can act as an immunosuppressant and I don't want to risk it after coming this far.
But that won't stop me from getting goose bumps, lol!!! Or possible a sip but can't see doing more than that.
FLGuy/jd: Yeah..everyday here has been 100-105...there is no escape except the
tx-cave
I think he means Paulaner
Magnum
my bad....read what THIS forum is for......perhaps I have been posting in the wrong forum....sorry all
just a comment...I am sorry....perhaps misunderstood what this forum was for.....see amongst the questions that arise daily regarding this disease, i thought perhaps it was also a social network of like minded/bodied people due to our illness, HENCE it was a SAFE place to discuss concerns, health issues, new research and obtain moral support. Now correct me if I am wrong but if we happen to be HUMAN ENOUGH to miss a cold alcoholic beverage on a hot day or special occassion, then we should not have to fear retribution or scathing judgements from certain people on here, this is to help us get through this horrible disease and find support and good information.......so....if you have nothing nice to say or are being self righteous, then perhaps this negativity should be directed anyplace else but here.........or am I wrong...hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Came back to Houston to get the low down from my new Hepatologist of two weeks ago.
I am SVR but my liver is all but gone. I would love a cold beer but I tried monday evening after the news and it made me so sick I thought I bought the farm. First alcohol in nearly 5 years. Now at 60 I am told no sodium, Low Fat diet, no tobacco. Last nite my daughter fixed me a salad and a skinless chicken breast with lemon juice and just as I was going to take a bite she read on the pkg "Enhanced with 7% sodium and other natural ingredients" so hold on dad and I'll fix you a Tilapia fillet! Looked at that pkg and it was farm raised in China and preserved with Carbon Dioxide-Yummy! and I know the pond it came from was clean-Ha! My point? Anyone who is thinking about taking the Tx don't do like I did and think too long. Because I had a mild heart attack and because I smoked for 40 years and have COPD my friendly Hepatologist said make every day count 'cause you aren't a likely candidate for a transplant. I'd love a beer, or a Margarita with lots of salt, a Martini with an olive and a coctail onion-heck, I'd like a pickle. Not looking for pity-not at all-just touching on the fact that some of us have it worse than others. At the Hepatologists office I saw a man younger than me; canary yellow and a stomach as large as a piano, the rest of him skin and bones and I thought: Thank God thats not me! Now I wonder how long before I will look like that! Nygirl is so right; SVR doesn't reverse the damage done to our liver but Alcohol can make it worse so why play with fire???
Speaking of geese, and not to take this thread too far off track...Each winter we have a couple of geese move into a little niche on our roof. Al least one of them, the female I think, lays eggs that roll down the roof bounce over the gutter and splat on the walk way. The neighborhood raccoons come over and lap up the gooey remains. Either the geese are too stupid to figure it out or I'm too stupid to put up a little chicken wire to keep them out. In any event, the raccoons are winners. I guess i don't want to interferon with the cycles of nature of the geese. Just wish they'd **** somewhere else.
"Interferon's been known to give goose bumps too."
Why are geese on interferon in the first place? Sharing feathers in the 80's?
Ah I miss a lot of things but I bet of all of them, I'd miss my liver the most.
Wait until AFTER you are SVR Please cause alcohol can make the meds ineffective. And only if you are a lower stage liver damage and might have some regression there.........not worth the chance!
It was so hot there this last week or so! How do you find a shady spot? Florida seems strangely devoid of shade to me!
I miss beer too, and ice cold wine. But most of all I miss celebrating occasions with nice champagne! But I am very glad I will get to keep my liver!
I'm glad to hear that it's all almost over. Going through tx this time of year down here is brutal. I hope that your recovery is quick. After a bad experience in the sun early in treatment I avoided being outside very much except early in the mornings and bug time in the evenings. When I needed to be out in the height of the day I'd scurry from shady spot to shady spot. It was nice to get away from the vampire existence and hit the beach again. Hang in there.
Gosh, FL Guy....I'd make a comment about your great sense of humor, but last time I did I got a warning.
Throwing caution to the wind.........here goes.......FLGuy...you're so funny!!
No more interferon for me after yesterday.....Yay!!
I had some O'Doul's this past year myself. Not so bad. That n/a wine is awful tho. Like drinking sugar water. Ugh.
