fourth time's a charm!

Just back from my hepatologist visit yesterday.  I have a prescription for Peg-Intron, Riba, and Victrelis, plus Procrit, and ultram, and restaril, and celexa, and attarax, and pramasone cream.  The paperwork will hit my insurance company today -- and I am guessing that it will be 4-6 weeks before I actually start the meds.

Oh joy...here I go again!

I've been approved for incivek. Hope I'm not making a mistake. I wanted to try and just to 24 weeks. I waiting to hear from my pharma but vertex says I've should hear soon.Didn't know I should get approvals for all the prescriptions I may need. I'll ask my doctor about that on my next visit. Still trying to figure how all this done. I want to take a week to get away to get my head in a good position to start therapy. Wishing you well. So many decision to make.....

Ugh...willing, I can't wait!  :)  Are you treating now/starting soon, or were you in a trial?

Gingerpal, I won't go that far, but in my case, I want to complete treatment, and to do that, I have to get past the sides.  We also liked the fact that I'll be taking the Victrelis for longer (44 weeks, instead of just 12.)

As for SVR rates, there are others here who have completely digested the trial data, and hopefully, they will chime in on this.  For me, I think the two new PIs are roughly similar in SVR rates, perhaps with a slight edge to Incivek.  Also, those are aggregate rates, there are small differences in the different study sub-populations.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Neptune for your response.
Does it appear that the main reason for choosing victrelis or incivek should be based on the potential side effects?
Does one or the other seem to have a better svr rate???

all the best from a fellow vic/round4 lab rat!.

Re vic and anemia there's an interesting graph of average Hgb decline in Figure 11, page 77, of the Merck submission to the FDA Advisory review:

http://www.fda.gov/downloads/AdvisoryCommittees/CommitteesMeetingMaterials/Drugs/AntiviralDrugsAdvisoryCommittee/UCM252343.pdf

On average, it seems vic-triple-tx does not lower your Hgb much more than the tail end of  soc - you just get to that low point much sooner (eg by w10). The gap between double and triple narrows as tx goes on. So expecting a level similar to what you saw towards the end of the last round seems a reasonable approximation.

Hey...thanks, you guys, I really appreciate the good wishes!  I'm pretty upbeat about it, and with the tiniest bit of luck, next year I can savor the taste of being SVR.

Gingerpal, I went with Victrelis due to the side effects.  During my last SOC go-round, I had rash, plus anemia.  I was on Procrit nearly the whole time, and I needed several transfusions when my bloods dropped precipitously low.  My doc says the anemia is easier to treat than the rash, so this gives me a better shot at completing.

The Peg-Intron is weight-based dosing, although my memory is that for me, at least, it is the harder to tolerate of the two (the other being Pegasys.)

Cheers, All!!

Good Luck Neptune.  I have my doctor appointment to hopefully start tx in Aug.
Any reason why you are going with Victrelis instead of Incivek?
And any reason why you are using Peg Intron and not pegasys?
I wish you the best.
Thanks.

That is so smart to get them all at once - you can tell you've done treatment before that's for sure ;)

Wishing you ALL the good luck in the world and that this will be the SVR it's HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish you well on your voyage.  I wish you didn't have to do it, but hopefully this will put a permanent end to the evil virus.
Take care,
Ev
