After ascite, how much longer, liver can work?
at the end
thanks for information about ascite disease which my mother facing now.
It sounds like your mother is experiencing one of the common symptoms of cirrhosis. It is called Ascites. She is probably experiencing other symptoms as well. Another common one is hepatic encephalopathy. It causes poor mental function. Loss of memory, insommnia, confusion, and even coma. All of these symptoms of the liver being unable to perform all of its functions any longer because the liver has become so diseased due to hapatitis C.
She needs to be under the care of a hepatologist at a near-by liver transplant center. They are the only medical professions who can help her at this point of her disease. They will prescribe meds or treatment that will help manage her symptoms. Unfortunately your mother's liver disease has progressed to End Stage Liver Disease. She will need to be listed at the liver transplant center in order to be eligible to receive a new liver.
* Get her the healthcare she needs now.
* Support her all you can as she is going to face a very difficult journey while she waits for a transplant. Wait times are very long both here in the US and Canada. Her other loved ones and friends also need to support her. The more support she gets the better she will be able to maintain the will to live through what will be a very painful and emotional time.
* You should learn what you can about End Stage Liver Disease because she is going to need an avocate to make sure she gets the care she needs.
