There is no way to know without doing tests.  You could live your entire life symptom free or die of hepatic carcinoma next week.

There is no better time to treat than now.  Treatments are getting shorter and easier.  When I started using this website it was full of horror stories.  Now, it is full of success stories.

Get to a GI Doctor ASAP, you need to kill or slow that Hep-C down, FAST, before it attacks your liver, if it hadn't already.

Hep C does not react the same in everybody. For a percentage of the people, the virus can cause severe liver damage over a long period of time. For some, it never does.

What is important now that you know you have it, is to find out if you have any liver damage and if so, how much.

Now that you are diagnosed you should stop drinking alcohol~ with hep C,it's like pouring gasoline on a fire.

Get educated. Look at other web sites and learn more about the virus.
One place to start is: www.hepcadvocate.org

Good luck.

Hi lilluth
The bigger question is how long have you had it before you found out.

There are new treatments available and coming soon that can eradicate the virus for most patients. See your dr preferably a hepatologist or gastroenterologist that specialize in treating hep c. Get treated and then it hopefully will never progress to anything more.

Good luck
