Metavir Grading for Liver Biopsy Results
The Metavir scoring system was specially designed to evaluate the liver in people with HCV. The scoring consists of using a grading and a staging system. The grade gives an indication of the activity or amount of inflammation and the stage represents the amount of fibrosis or scarring.
Grading the degree of liver inflammation
* A0= no inflammation
* A1= mild inflammation
* A2= moderate inflammation
* A3= severe inflammation
Grading the degree of liver fibrosis
* F0= no fibrosis
* F1= minimal fibrosis
* F2= fibrosis has occurred and spread inside the areas of the liver including blood vessels
* F3= fibrosis is spreading and connecting to other liver areas that contain fibrosis
* F4= cirrhosis or advance liver fibrosis
Pros:
You are aware that you have hep c before it has progressed any further.
Your liver disease is not advanced enough to have a major impact on the odds of clearing the hep c virus.
If you are genotype 1, new meds should be available this year which have very high cure rates.
Cons:
Your hepatitis c is active and has damaged your liver. (But the liver will be able to repair itself if you can stop future damage to your liver by successful treating the virus.
You should be looking onto treatment options so your liver disease does not progress further.
Good luck.
Hectorsf
Hi there ...your Grade is the amount of inflammation that is going on and the Stage is the amount of liver damage(fibrosis).These are both considered moderate readings.
Don"t know what you mean about pro"s and con"s, Are you currently treating or about to undergo treatment?
Hope that helps some
