I,AM NEW TO THIS FOURM,I TRYED TREATMENT 3 YEARS AGO AND IT DIDN,T WORK. I,AM GENO TYPE 1 LIVER STAGE 2,MY DOCTOR WHOM I SAW TODAY WANTS ME TO TRY AGAIN.WHEN SOMETHING NEW COMES OUT,MAYBE I WILL,BUT AS OF RIGHT NOW,I,AM TRYING TO LIVE WITH IT,TAKING MILK THISTLE EACH DAY.JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF I COULD HAVE A NA BEER? GUESS NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!
NA beer, no never. I asked my Hep Dr at UCLA and got a simple response. NO. .5 alcohol is alcohol. If you mistakenly ingest alcohol once It will not hurt you, but stay away.
The pre treatment nurse from a major pharm co told us that If we go SVR and our livers become normal and that is confirmed through biopsy than moderate wine would be ok. SVR is becoming a cure, but many things must happen and be tested to get there as we all know. Has anyone been SVR for at least six months and started to drink a few times per month followed by testing.? Wondering if it is too much a gamble. We put a lot into going SVR to risk, but living a normal life is attractive If possible.
Besides not throwing gas on a fire one should never p i s s in the wind or on an electric fence. What those have to do with HCV??? Not a dang thing.
R Glass wins the LTGOAF prize this time, but I'll be gunning for you on the next thread.
Gypsy: There are some nice zero alcohol beers such as Becks and Cobra, which can be safely drunk with Hep C.
The Becks NA here in California is 0.5%
NEVER while you aer on treatment as it can affect the medications and make them not work.
My doc said no more than one glass of champage a year for the rest of your life. But I'm stage 3 and so that makes sense not much more room before cirrhosis.
Add to the fact that it CAN affect how quickly your disease progresses and no one knows how that will be and it's best to stay away from all alcohol. If you SVR and are a low stage of damage than an OCCASIONAL drink will probably not harm you.
Think you mean .5% alcohol rather than 5%

I drank with Hep C (unknowingly) for twenty years and quit when I was diagnosed at which point the fibrosis started to progress!!
I always smile when I see the 'petrol on a fire' cliche-alcohol should of course be avoided but the occasional glass of white wine is probably O.K.(Not that I'm recommending it !)
Hello,
Non-Alcoholic beer is still brewed with alcohol. The bottle will say something like," brewed using less than 5% alcohol." That being said, it is about like the amount one may ingest gargling with Scope or Listerine. Take having Hep-C and throw in the controversy from AAers (can lead to relapse) about NA beer and all you can do is take the information before you and chose for yourself. I've had a six-pack of NA beer in my fridge for a year and a half and still have 2-left. It's just an every now and then thing for me depending on my mood. If you feel that you need to be able to drink it then you probably need to stay away from it.

I’m wondering if ‘jbl’ is referring to non-alcoholic beer when he says “na beer”? If so, the minuscule amount of available alcohol shouldn’t hurt you; as long as you don’t confuse it with the real deal :o).

This is a very controversial question.
Until you have all of the results back (liver biopsy) I would say definitely not. You may have 0 damage or you may have Cirrhoses.
Almost all of agree on no alcohol during tx. Where we disagree is having an occasional drink with mild liver damage. I am sure the cliché “Drinking with HCV is like throwing Gas on a Fire” will be used.
In my opinion, there are to many different circumstances for this to apply to everyone. Thus lies the controversy.
