a question about treatment , i have been reading a lot of info- what happens if treatment fails the first time, does this mean you can never be cured or svr? or can you try again another time or what?
A person your age should be able to live a long healthy life. But you do need to seek treatment, the new drugs on the market have about an 80 percent cure rate so you chances of being cured are great. The problem with not treating is hep c over a long period of time attacks your liver, quick causes liver cancer and cirrhosis. So please look to see a hepatoligist and find out your treatment options. The side effects of the treatment suck but it's better than the effects of hep c over the long haul. Also right now you are young and hopefully in good health otherwise so treatment will be easier. Good luck

so it isn't unthinkable for someone with hep c in their 20's who gives up drinking and takes care of themselves to live a normal life expectancy?
Sounds good i'm going tomorrow to have Biopsy and find out genotype. Blood test revealed early stage cirrhosis have had hep c for 25 yrs i went to the doc. when i was a young man he said it don't do nothing till you get older. now i am 52 had one biopsy 10 yrs ago doc said every 5 yrs i messed that up, like you said with the new meds. taking care of self life goes on. and the power of prayer.
Hi. I was diagnosed in 1999. I have hep c and cirrhosis. I was scared to death at first but it has been 12 years, and I live about the same as I always did. The treatments make you feel a little bad sometimes and have fatigue but it is worth it. A person without cirrhosis has a decent life expectancy. It can take 20 years to get cirrhosis...then a person with cirrhosis like me, I have been going 12 years now and no telling how long I had it before diagnosed. I was riding my bike last summer 13 miles and doing whatever. Most people continue to work as usual. The new treatment for those never treated is about 80% for genotype 1.
