Finally got my charts from my doc. Here is what my biopsy said. ( this is from 2003)
Pathologic Diagnosis:
Liver: Liver with Chronic Hepatitis C with moderate portal inflamation without necrosis ( grade 1) and no fibrosis ( stage 0)  At 12 weeks my VL was undetectable. I just got a blood test today to see where my VL is at. I stopped treatment June of 2006. One month after stopping tx it was back up to 768000. It started out at 992000. The last HCV PCR by bDNA was 5.97. Is that high?  I feel no symtoms at all. And I did my first weekend without any drinks. Haven't had one since Aug. 9. I know that aint nothing to brag about .. but I"m happy with myself .. :)

My GI doc told me it would take around 72 hours to get my results for my VL test..  I guess if it comes back high I will suggest another Biopsy. Are there other meds than  the Pegulated Interfreon and Riboviran? That stuff drove me crazy with the itching. If I do go on it again I might start taking the itching meds even before I start itching! hahah

You should indeed feel proud! :) Glad to hear your going "drinkless"... I applaud you!

It's not unusual for VL to fluctuate quite a bit -- and not having any symptoms is pretty common too.  Your liver biopsy from 2003 showing no fibrosis is GREAT -- but since that is some years ago, and since fibrosis progression is unpredictable, it might be helpful for you to do another biopsy and assess where you are now to better formulate a plan for yourself.  (Certainly some people move forward with treatment without a biopsy, but if you're undecided about a course of action, it's can be an invaluable piece of information in the decision-making process.)  Hopefully you can find a good hepatologist that will assess your individual situation and be more helpful in making you feel comfortable in participating in your own care!  (And being alcohol-free is a tremendous first step!)

I will leave the technical advice to some others that are much better at that than me.

But I did want to congratulate you on having a drink-free weekend!  Since the 9th! Yeah, that can be something to brag about. :-)

I am happy for you.
