thinking towards trials (free) for hcv geno 1b

I am seriously thinking the trials will be my only way to go as my health ins will run out in nov. And w/no job i dont see myself able to afford Cobra. I dont think im elegible for medicare since I am able boddied. and not old enough. So heres the question 4 all who know. and all who find their selves in my shoes. I live in oklahoma, but have friends in calif and nevada. Im close to Arkansas. Where would be best place to look for trials. and which one's have the best odds with new meds and which ones are @ least honest about what treatment your getting , if they do such a thing. Thanks with kindest reguards I am Ginger

Here is a link to all the trials in oklahoma. The one I posted above looks like the best one currently, you would have an 80% chance of getting the new drug included with riba and interferon, and a 20% chance of riba and inf alone. they allow all rescue drugs, but they need to be paid for with insurance or privately which is pretty common with these trials.  Are you treatment naive (never treated before)?

I don't remember having to register for clinicaltrials.gov  I just found a study I felt good about and called the contact information to see if they were still screening when I was interested. They will help you from there if they are still looking for participants.

The treatment drugs (BMS-790052, ribavirin and interferon) will be paid for as well as all the labs and doctor visits.

If you need the support or rescue drugs because of blood cell destruction you would have to pay for that. that would be procrit for anemia, and neupogen for low white blood cells or anc. You may not have an issue with anemia or white blood cells, not everyone does. But you should be aware of the possibility.

I would call on monday if you are interested in this trial. As I mentioned previously they may have found all the participants they need already, but it is worth a try. They just opened it up for recruitment a few weeks ago.

The new drug is called BMS-790052, it does not have a name like telaprevir or boceprevir yet. It looks very promising from the previous trials. This trial is also for genotype 1 or 4. Which genotype are you?

The most populous states have the most trials, it seems. Try California if you have folks there. I just did the following search on clinicaltrials.gov:

"hepatitis c and phase 2 and california"

And found 30 studies currently recruiting.

The link is clinicaltrials.gov

There is a trial that is just starting and they have two sites in tulsa. This is for bms 790052 riba and interferon which looks very promising. Some of the forum members are going to participate.

here is the link, I don't know if they are still taking people. It says recruiting, but I know they are getting close to closing the recruitment. If you are interested, call asap

I would just go to trials .gov and plug in the states you are looking at and see what comesup.  They often have things available or coming that aren't listed but it can give you an idea where a lot of trials are being done.
Hope it goes well. There are some very knowledgable people around here that are good at helping you see the pitfalls and the strengths built in to the trial.  Some are just a safer bet than others.
