Which Type of Test was I given?

Last Saturday (6 days ago) I went and got tested for STD's because of a sore and redness that I was experiencing.  The doctor immediately said after hearing my symptoms and looking at my genitals that she did not think it was herpes.  I asked to be tested for STD's anyway and when I asked what I was being tested for, I had to insist that I was tested for genital  herpes.  She seemed pretty convinced that I did/do not have it.  Should this provide me with any consolation?

I then insisted that I be tested anyway, and after doing the necessary tests for other STD's I had blood drawn for a herpes test to be sent off to the lab.  I did not ask her what specifically the test was.  But I made sure that I was being tested for Genital Herpes.

Can I assume that I was given the correct lgg (sp) test for herpes?  I just want to know that I can trust the results when they do come back.

Thanks

at this point all you can do is wait.

so you had a lesion culture done of symptoms and blood testing for herpes done?

She did do a lesion culture.  And my last encounter was 8 months ago, so certainly longer than the required 12 weeks.

I am just now showing symptoms of whatever this is, so I am feeling confident that it is not herpes and for other reasons as well.  I have not heard of an 8 month incubation period for herpes

You can't assume anything with testing.  Some people don't adhere to proper testing.  You will need to wait for your test results or call the clinic to ask if you were tested using an IgG testing.

The testing though was done too soon for HSV.  You need to wait 12 weeks from the date of the encounter to be seen.  Having a provider feel it isn't herpes is a good sign but they should have done a lesion culture.
