rash on butt?

I have frequently had "happy ending" massages over the last few years.  These have never been more than mutual genital touching, and limited oral.  Two weeks ago I started to have an itchy rash on the top of my butt near my crack.  It was a group of about 8 red pimple-like bumps.   They never blistered or oozed, no visible vesicles, etc, just itched a lot.   after a week of not getting better, I went to a dermotologist.  I did not give him any background.  He looked at it and said it looked "suspicious" for herpes, only because of the grouping of the red bumps.  He said the were already healing, nothing to swab, and sent me home with some bactroban ointment, telling me to come back if the rash reappeared.  (by the way, it had been about two weeks before the rash appeared since I had gone for a massage).  I talked to a friend of mine who is a urologist, who had me come over for a look.  He was adamant that this was not herpes, and told me to not give it another thought. He said the appearance, location, and timeline did not fit.

As I said, it has been 2 weeks, the red bumps are definately much smaller,( although just as red), and the itching has just about stopped..  I just am having trouble forgetting what the dermatologist said, although I know I did not give him any background.  I have read the expert responses that it is virtually unheard of to get herpes from mutual touching, especially given that this rash is on my backside, yet am still worried because it seems to be taking so long for this red spots to go away.  I would greatly appreciate any feedback which would ease my paranoia.  thanks in advance.

Grace, when you say ob's in that area from oral, do you mean hsv-1?

irony would be if this came from your regular partner.

you can get ob's in that area even from oral sex too.

are you going to get herpes from naked outercourse and mutual masturbation, not likely at all.

understood.   Having said that, is there any comfort from the expert posts I have read that state they have never heard of or seen any herpes infections from mutual genital touching?   thank you

I really don't have a clear opinion on if this is herpes or not. An experienced dermatologist is pretty good at diagnosing herpes and honestly I'd be more certain of their opinion than an urologist. that said, visual diagnosis of herpes is wrong about 1/3 of the time which is why we recommend follow up serological testing.

many things can cause rashes like this - including reactions to the massage oils used during massages.   at this point, continue to follow up with the dermatologist as needed if the rash continues.

do you have a regular partner?

have you ever been tested for herpes before?
