Contracted in a massage parlour?

Possibly a stupid question, but:

I recently had an ayurvedic massage in a resort in India. I was only covered in a small (2-inch-wide) piece of cloth tucked over my genitals, and I lay on the same table I'm sure a whole bunch of people have lain on before me with no washing between. When I was showering afterwards I noticed the lady putting the cloth into a small jug of water with some "herbal mix" dubious soap, which I'm pretty sure is their version of sanitising. (the place itself was a bamboo hut).

I feel like an idiot for going that in the first place, and I am driving myself mad thinking, who has that cloth been on before me? what was on the surface i was essentially naked on? etc. Am I at risk of herpes/anything else from this episode? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

"Of all the things to worry about, herpes is not high on the list.  Unless you get some sort of skin rash on your body , not really anything to worry about. "

Sorry, am not very clear on this. Are you saying that if I get a skin rash it could be a symptom of herpes, or that I could get a skin rash because of the bacteria/conditions?

"Have you had any symptoms?"

No, it was just a few days ago so I'm in the driving-myself-mad-worrying stage at the moment.

Of all the things to worry about, herpes is not high on the list.  Unless you get some sort of skin rash on your body , not really anything to worry about.  I'd be more concerned about bacteria from not so hygienic conditions more than anything.

To answer your question regarding herpes.  It is said that the virus does not live on outside surfaces and thus can't infect you.  Which is why you can't get genital herpes from a toliet seat.

Have you had any symptoms?
