Could it be anything else other than herpes?

Hey there,

The last time I had unprotected sex was over a year ago and got chlamydia, got treated and no other problems since. Ever since then every person had to be wrapped. The last time I sex, period, was five months ago. Until.... about a week and a half ago I had sex with a guy. Majority of the time of the session he was wrapped up except for like 15 seconds. After like a day, started feeling sick, like I had allergies and like two or three days later my vagina felt a little odd. I figured nothing major, it could have been from tearing or something, but as the days increased it started feeling raw and pain while urinating. About 5-6 days later I had muscles aches over my body and yellow discharge. I decided to get a doctor's the next day. They gave a pap smear and blood test. I got meds to be treated for uti (100 mg Nitrofurantoin) and an bacterial infection (given MetroGel-Vaginal 0.75%, just in case) and told the results are to return in two weeks. I've only been taking the Nitroftranoin, thus far and figured at the end of this week, I take the Metro-Gel since I have two weeks to wait anyways. After the first dose, which I took the evening of the appoint (about 7 days after the sexual contact), I got like two big bumps on the labia majora. The next day I got six of them on the peripheral of my vagina. They all hurt. I have been having problems sitting, moving, laughing hard, coughing and walking. I don't get pain from the ones on the outside unless I touch them. This pain emanates from the vagina tract itself. I went back to the doctor's today (two days after the initial appt) since my situation changed since they last saw it and they took a swab of the infected area, which included the inside of my vagina...i didn't know I had bumps in there which would explain why I haven't been sitting well, etc. I'm having difficulty with peeing, pooping and passing gas. My bowels are used to clearing itself twice a day and, lately, I've been feeling constipated, i'm not going everyday. No matter how much I drink my urine is yellow, although a few times it's green from the Nitroftranoin, I'm told. My belly feels bloated and puffy. Currently I'm nauseated. They say I have to wait another week before I get results of the swab alone. The doctor gave me a seven day supply of Acyclovir (400 mg three times a day in addition to the uti med) All of this waiting is killing me. Please share your thoughts of anything you have in mind. I'm absolutely freaking out and hoping for an alternative or something else that should be tested. Are these symptoms limited to just genital herpes or could there be anything else (less serious and curable hopefully) that I am suffering?

Idk, if it pertains, but I had MRSA on the back of thigh just above the knee a couple months ago.

if you get a type specific herpes igg blood test done this week, it'll help you figure out if this is a newly acquired infection or not. It needs to be done as soon as possible though in order to help with that issue. It could  be that all your other infections trigger a humdinger of a herpes recurrence but it's more likely this is a newly acquired infection.

I told the guy he cursed me and said I better pray he doesn't have it and then hung up the phone...I'm sure I will hear the results, either that or feel it if it's not good.

In your opinion, since I've no symptoms from the first guy that as soon as I did the deed with the second and started getting ailments that it could be from the second guy? It's been over a year since the first guy and nothing. I've been trying to contact the first guy as well, but to no avail, thus far.

Thanks for your thoughts. They are appreciated, not exactly the best news, but you presented it in a good and informative manner. I feel unfortunate but I did do this to myself. As of today, so weird, but I have been peeing and its clearer, except the times when the uti med is clearing out the system! I feel much better, still haven't evacuated my bowels, but I still feel better and my appetite has returned (I only lost it yesterday, cud be bcuz of the nausea and puffiness). Only one day on the Acyclovir and I already feel better...smh. I guess I have it...otherwise I wouldn't be feeling better.

this certainly sounds suspicious for herpes and it's best practice to start treatment since it takes so long to get results from lesion cultures.  odds are that you've never been tested for herpes before this and it's likely the partner you had never was either.  if your lesion culture comes back as negative, make sure you follow up with a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your status is in a few months. Also if they call and tell you that your lesion culture was + for herpes, be sure to ask if it's hsv1 or hsv2. Knowing your type is very important.

any chance of getting this partner to test for herpes with igg blood testing and share their results with you?

bv  ( which is what you were given the metrogel for ) makes you more likely to contract genital herpes as well as it's also very common during the first infection and can make herpes linger. since everything inside you is so irritated, not a bad idea to call the clinic and ask them to phone you in the pill form to treat it instead of trying to put the gel inside your vagina at this point. I know it's a lot of pills at one time for you and I'm sure you are going to be feeling pretty nauseous for the next week but treating the bv too is also a good idea.

If you aren't urinating at least 3x/day or it's been longer than 12 hours since you were able to urinate, give your provider a call. The herpes virus can affect bowel and bladder nerves when initially infected and cause them to slow down quite a bit.  Sometimes it gets so bad you need to use enemas to get your bowels going or go and get catheterized in order to urinate :(

The free herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific resource to start learning more about herpes. It's an incredibly common infection and you can control it for the most part with medication but the first ob is a total ^%&*#$ and it can be hard to wrap your head around it all, especially when feeling so poorly.  Hang in there - you'll soon have a better idea of what all is going on and can deal with this :)

keep asking questions :)
