Hello,
I have had HSV-1 on my lips for about ten years now. They were infrequent until about two years ago, and now I am getting them 7-10 times per year. They've even ventured off to other places on my face (between my lip and nose and a couple inside my nose on my septum). I've had this in my nose before about 7 years ago, but I only just realized (or surmised) that it was a cold sore based on its behavior.
Anyway, four nights ago, I had a tingling sensation between my nose and lip. I thought it would be another cold sore in my nose. Instead, I woke up with swelling and pain just behind my right canine tooth on the alveolar ridge. I've woken to pain like this before, too, so at first I didn't think anything of it. I would suspect burning or a cut, but I don't recall eating anything to cause that the day before. The swelling has gone down but the tenderness remains (three days now). In your opinion, could this be a cold sore?

That picture is the best I could get with my compact mirror and my phone. I can say that I ate chips and salsa yesterday and I scratched it with a chip (ouch), so maybe that spot is a scratch? I'm not sure. Anyway, your thoughts are appreciated (and sorry for the novel).
