HSV-1 Transmission

If someone should have an active cold sore on their lip and touches their runny nose while out on a cold day then uses a pen to write and you use the pen just a minute after them, what's the likelihood of getting HSV-1. Does it lives in nasal mucus and saliva? Just to caveat this person did not wash their hands before using the pen and then the pen was used by another within minutes.

you've posted this question 3 times now. You absolutely will not get hsv1 from touching a pen.  stop worrying.

So the virus doesn't live in mucus?

The virus lives in nerve cells, and I don't get what you are really asking with the pen thing.  Are you asking if you could get it via the pen?  No, you can't get it via the pen, as rebuters already said.

You might get their cold if they have a runny nose, but won't get their hsv1.

Herpes spreads by direct contact, that is, directly from the site of infection to the site of contact.
