Herpes Blood test accuracy

HI!
I was married for 15 years to a man with herpes.  We recently divorced and I am in an (almost) intimate relationship with someone.  I have not told him anything about the herpes because I don't want to alarm him if there is no need.  My dilemma... I don't know if I have herpes. I had a blood test performed at my doctor's office and the test results came back negative for both herpes type 1 and 2.  They used the Elisa test for IgG and Im.   In the beginning of our marriage, I recall one day of very painful urination, but other than that, no signs of the virus since then.  I have never seen any blisters and my husband and I avoided sex during outbreaks, although I know it can be transmitted with no visual signs of an outbreak.    My question is how reliable are the results of this blood test I took and can I sleep at night knowing there is no chance of infecting my partner?  I would be devastated if I did!  Please help.  I will be with him this weekend so the sooner I know, the better.

Just because he's a germaphobe doesn't mean he doesn't have herpes or any other std.

If you had your blood test 2 years after you last had sex with anyone then it's accurate.  You should still see your doctor though if you have something abnormal going on down yonder.

We have been friends for over 2 years and I trust him completely....as he trusts me completely...that's why the urgency to know for sure if the negative test results are accurate.  He's a germaophobe and I don't want to alarm him if I don't have to.  He would be distraught if I gave him herpes.

I haven't had sex with my ex-husband, or anyone for that matter, for over 2 years.  I just put a call into my doctor's office and she is supposed to be calling me back.  She's going to think I'm nuts...this is my second call into her office today.
I just really need to have piece of mind on this.  Would a second blood test be of any help?

You and the new guy should  go for testing anyway since it's the start of a new sexual relationship. Who knows? He may have it himself. But you won't know until he gets tested.

How long after the last time you had had sex with your ex husband had you had the blood test done? I'll gladly take a look at the results for you if you want to post them here - ie hsv1 igg .45 and hsv2 igg .67 or whatever they were.
