this doesn't sound at all like herpes going on. your original herpes testing was negative so odds are you would've had a very "classic" initial first episode - multiple and painful lesions within 2-20 days after the encounter.
at this point, no more walk in clinics or ER's. they are not good at issues like this and you've already covered the testing bases that they are usually most helpful with. You should be exclusively following up with the urologist at this point.
grace
Thanks for the quick reply! I only went to the walk in clinics because both times it happened to be a Saturday and it was my only choice.
These red spots are definitely more aggressive than what I've had on my foreskin before. Can herpes appear as red bumps on the foreskin that never ooze, blister? Upon further examination, they might be scabbing very very slightly. And could I have prodrome symptoms on and off for 2 months without a "classic" breakout before finally having one, if that's what this is?
I felt so relieved with the herpes blood test being negative at 5-6 weeks after the encounter, but then read afterward that it might be a false negative that early, so I'm really worried about that as well.
Do you think this is candida, fungal, or yeast problem instead? I feel like my situation is unlike anything I've read on the internet (and I've scoured over soooo many articles, forums, etc...
as I said, these don't sound at all like herpes.
I'd certainly continue cleansing daily with a mild soap under your foreskin and applying an antifungal twice a day.
Thanks again Grace! I'll be sure to report back when I get the results of the swab back.
Hi Grace,
I just wanted to update you on this. The test swab came back NEGATIVE for Herpes. Clearly, this was a relief. The swab was taken within 24 hours after they appeared so I feel pretty good about the result. Plus, I had the negative blood test 5-6 weeks after the unprotected oral sex.
However, I'm still worried about what is happening to me. I have been having what I could only describe as constant neuralgia now. All throughout the day I get jolts of pain in my muscles all over my body....my thighs, my legs, my stomach, chest, and arms. Every once in a while I feel some pain in my penis, my testicles, my perineum, and/or anus, but it's pretty mild. Can Prostatitis/CPPS cause this? My girlfriend and I are still going through this lengthy breakup as well (living together but I'm moving out this month) so I'm extremely stressed....can stress cause this?
Any ideas what this is???
yes indeed stress and anxiety can cause all over aches and pains like this. keep active -walking and such release endorphins too that help you feel better in general as well as keeps your muscles all stretched properly :)
Thanks yet again! I'll keep you updated on this just so you know, as well as for anyone else who might be going through the same thing as I am (though I hope nobody is!)
Grace,
I'm at a loss now....
I just got new blood test results back from my doctor. This was 3 months past exposure and I came back POSITIVE for HSV1. It was an IGG type-specific test but I didn't get the numbers yet. I was negative again for HSV2. I'm so confused. The first blood test was negative 1 month after, and the swab for the red bumps I had on my foreskin was negative as well.
However my symptoms are persisting...I have neuralgia throughout the day in weird spots...my arms, legs, feet, hands, stomach, but it's never too bad. I also have pain in my lower back on and off. Sometimes I get a tingly uncomfortable feeling in my penis too but no outbreak or anything. Is it safe to say this is from the HSV1 and that it's genital?
you can't really assume it's hsv1 genitally.
continue to follow up regularly with your providers. I'd ask for a neurology consult for the neuralgia. a genital herpes infection would not cause tingling above the waist.
Hi Grace,
Just to give you an update, the number for the IGG test was 1.51 for HSV1 and 0.07 for HSV2. I can DEFINITELY rule out HSV2, but are those resulted for HSV1 considered borderline or is it safe to safe that I am HSV1 positive?
I am also starting to think that now that I am positive for HSV1, that I might have been coinfected with HIV from this encounter as well, which might help account for some of my other symptoms that I have been getting...neuralgia, slight fatigue, a canker-like sore on the inside of my cheek, shortness of breath for the past few weeks, and one or two days of bad diarrhea. And whatever small sores I had on penis, I think might possibly be part of all these other symptoms which are very common for early HIV infection.
I had a blood test done for the HIV and I am now awaiting the results. Clearly I am freaking out about all of this. I have already gotten herpes from this, and now I might have HIV which I might have also passed on to my girlfriend (when we had unprotected sex after my early negative herpes test. She had a bad, dry cough for a few weeks, which is finally going away) which I'm afraid is part of her early HIV infection.
really no reason to think you have hiv either.
Hi Grace,
The HIV test result was negative. Phew.
As for the HSV1 being 1.51... Do you think there is a chance it is a false-positive? Ever since that result, the neuralgia has completely gone away and now ever since my negative HIV result, all of the other symptoms have gone away as well, so I'm just wondering if this was ALL in my head, caused by my overwhelming guilt.
I assume that my next step to see once and for all is to get the Western Blot test done. It's been over 3 months since the encounter. Should I wait until the 8-month mark to see? Or would it be OK to take it now?
I am in NYC so I'm just wondering if you know of any place here that does the Western Blot? (My GP does not).
Thanks again for taking the time to ready my posts/answer my questions.
Hi Grace,
I was just wondering if you could please answer my question regarding the possibility of a false positive and if/when I can take the Western Blot to know for sure.
Thanks in advance!
It is probably worth following up with a WB to confirm your HSV-1 status, but that still won't tell you the location of the infection. It's possible that your first test simply missed it (as it does 1 / 10 times) and that it is a long-established oral infection.
I had a Western Blot done at the Quest Diagnostics lab on W 86th street, but I had to become a phone patient of Terri Warren's to have it ordered. Make an appointment with her through the Westover Heights Clinic (Google it).
Thanks for the info. I will look into that.
The exact same thing is happening to me but I'm 18, would like to here the end result cause I'm freaking out
Exact same thing happened to me, I'm 18 cheated on my misses and had unprotected sex, I regret it so much, I've been freaking out about herpies, I got a small red lump shown after a few days and it hasn't gone away since and it's been like a week, my doctor said it doesn't look like herpes but still I'm worried, let me know how it goes for you
Hi Grace,
Coming back on here to give you an update on everything. I still am not sure what's going on with me! Since my last update, I went to see a dermatologist 2 or 3 times who examined me and said this was just a fungal infection. I wasn't too confident in his evaluations, so I went to another dermatologist. She did a swab of the red spots that I get on and off and it was NEGATIVE. I again wasn't too confident with her examination (since it seems like a lot of doctors don't really know too much about herpes besides the classic first outbreak), but I took her word for it and continued on. Then about two months after that in early November 2013, I got VERY painful and persistent blisters on my right pointer finger underneath my nail. She swabbed those and they came back POSITIVE for HSV1. So far, nothing has come back on my finger. One thing that I learned from this was that this pain was 10x as bad as anything I've gotten in my genital area. That pain is fairly consistent but nowhere near as painful as on the finger. The doctor told me that what happened on my finger is completely unrelated to what's happening in my genital area, but could I have somewhere given this to myself? I don't think I ever touch my penis with the back of my finger.
Regarding my problems in the genital area, I still am getting fairly persistent red bumps all over my foreskin and sometimes on the head of my penis. Sometimes when I get them, I have pain with them that comes and goes off and on throughout the day, but they NOT painful to touch. The pain seems to be more inside my penis than topical but is definitely more prevalent when I have those red bumps. I went to a urologist in late January and showed him the bumps and explained my whole story and he dismissed genital herpes regardless of my HSV1 positive status. He suggested circumcision since I am uncircumcised and I am still deciding if I should go through with this (my father had an adult circumcision at about the same age I am now).
I had a very bad outbreak of whatever this is in early February that spread all over my foreskin over a week or so (which came at a stressful time at work). Whenever I get these, I put a prescription antifungal cream on it (Econozole Nitrate) and it typically clears it up pretty quickly and then I stop using it. They never scab at all....at most, they might leave a flake of skin and a little red mark. As an experiment, I continued to apply it EVERY day for over a month and I never got any red bumps. I stopped using it and about a day later, I got a red bump on my foreskin, which has then spread to another area, then another, and has continued as a pretty consistent outbreak until even today! I just started using the antifungal cream again about a week ago and it had pretty much subsided. Then I stopped using it one day this weekend and the next day, I got another red bump on my foreskin on the underside of my penis! Can an antifungal cream prevent herpes breakouts by drying out the foreskin?
As you've read, I've had multiple doctors tell me I don't have genital herpes, including 2 negative swabs. I would be fine with living with whatever this is with no answers, but my fear is in infecting someone else. I just started dating a girl and she gave me unprotected oral sex on Saturday night (the night before I woke up with a red bump!). So I am now freaking out about having possibly infecting her with a cold sore if this is genital HSV1. You can give someone herpes on the lip from oral sex, right? I'm sorry this is so long but I just want to get all the facts out there and hopefully find some answers since this has been going on for over a year now.
Thanks in advance!
Looks like Grace isn't on here as much as she used to be so my post is open for any and all others to comment on as well :)
Anyone else have any input?
I'm a very healthy, fit, active, outgoing, normal person but I'm sure if you read my posts I seem like a crazy person. Haha. I don't know if this one bad decision I made a year ago having unprotected oral sex has caused me to get an STD or if it caused me to get anxiety-related issues that I just can't shake...followed by coincidental fungal issues related to being uncircumcised.
In summary, I've had the following:
1 IGG blood test that came up POSITIVE for HSV1
2 NEGATIVE swabs for HSV1 and HSV2 in the genital area on new red bumps/sores
1 POSITIVE swab for HSV1 on my right finger
1 urologist who diagnosed me with Prostatitis. This was 2 months after the incident when no bumps had yet appeared (besides super small bumps I've gotten my whole life due to being uncircumcised)
1 dermatologist tell me everything that he sees during 2 separate visits looks like a fungal infection (4 months after incident)
1 dermatologist tell me everything she sees during 3 separate visits looks like a fungal infection, including a negative swab for genital herpes and a positive swab on my finger for HSV1. (5-8 months after incident)
1 urologist tell me everything he sees looks like a persistent fungal infection and he suggests circumcision (something I am still debating...my father had one done when he was around my age due to red/painful foreskin).
Any input would be helpful from anyone with any knowledge or experience with these issues. Thanks!
Man bro same story IVE BEEN TO 4CLINICS AND EVERYTHING WAS NEGATIVE TILL THIS DAY I Hve the same problem my dr says i should get a circUMSIZED BECAISE ITS FUNGAL INFECTION, IVE HAD BLOOD DRAWN IN 2012 2013 and 2014 in feb im going again next month before i make the final decesion of getting clipped, but Same exact ****** symptoms bro.... one thing u need to stop doing is panicing becUae u making it worserr so my mom says...I will update u when i get the results back
Yo fellas, it is balanitis. And you don't need to cut your joint off... it's from a yeast build up called candida. Get some unrefined cold pressed coconut oil. Put it on, keep it on. The problem however is under the skin. So when you can, when the skin starts to return to normal usually within a few days, you got to rub it out. I. E it's like rubbing sand out after going to the beach. Or splinters. The issue is malezzia yeast the size of little mustard seeds, that is hardening with the skins layers
. U have to also put the oil on the scrotum, and follow back to your buttocks and thighs. It basically likes to bury or entrench itself in the soft tissue areas of muscle and that's why one may feel tightening in the muscles and joints. Imagine a pin and a pin cushion. The pin is stuck in the cushion right, it compresses the area, and cuts off any flexibility, blood movement, etc. Now imagine a bunch of pins stuck in a row. Or many rows or "tracks." .
it's sowing or stitching itself in.
I use Dr. Bonners liquid soap and added hydrochloric acid to the soap. Like the stuff you put on a cut. But It won't burn don't worry. And I add Epson salt to the washing rag and scrub the whole body. It's not just on your penis unfortunately. It's in your hands and probably in other areas like your face, nise chin, hands and feet like athletes foot but as a fungus lotrimin won't kill it. . It could have been there chilling, acting like acne for years.
Also you have to change your diet man. stop eating breads, pastas, cow milk, beer, sodas, or anything that will convert to sugar. This is most definitely the devil in disguise. Also get into a sauna if you have access. Use the oil while in the sauna. Just put a light coat on your whole body.
I have been on the case. I almost bugged out over these last two years. Dermatologist docs don't know ****.
One love,
Nat

Hi man,
I wonder if you have it treated and now cured. I have had the exact same problem as you did and I am so worried and scared that I can't face my family. I am waiting on my blood test and now I am 7 weeks after unprotected oral sex.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
