hsv 1 and 2

I have read on the forums about the difference between igm test and igg tests. My primary doctor did a igm herpes test on me 3 and a half months after possible exposure and it come back negative for both. Is the IGM test accurate after 3 months? I know the IGM does not tell which type of herpes a person has, but doesn't it tell if you have been infected at all?

the igg herpes test is a far more accurate indicator of infection than the igm is.  if you want better answers, get a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your status is.

most people who have hpv orally don't get obvious symptoms to even know that they are infected with it.

you were seen by an ENT doctor who would've told you if anything looked suspicious.

no, a  4 month long sore throat is not indicative of hiv.

why would it matter if it was an igm or an igg?  Wouldn't the igm after 3 months tell me whether or not I have been infected regardless if it is type specific. Would an herpetic sore throat last for 4 months? What would oral hpv look like? Would it be warts in the mouth or just an irritated sore throat. My ENT did not see any wart like growths in my throat when he shined the light down. My throat is more just red and irritated with tonsil on left side larger than one on my right side. Would the 6 week viral load test and antibody test for HIV be accurate you think and would a 4 month long sore throat be indicative of HIV? I don't have any cold sores on mouth or none in my throat from what I can tell and what I have been told.

I thought you said both your igg and igm was negative. sorry I was confused - was way too tired when I was answering posts last evening.

repeat your testing with a herpes igg blood test that is type specific and go from there.

there are over 30 different types of hpv that infect the genital area. the kinds that cause external warts are a cosmetic issue only and not a health risk. having them removed is all it takes. condoms do not protect against hpv 100%.  you can have the same types of hpv orally but it's thought that overall the risk of that occurring and contracting hpv from oral sex is low.  more likely it came from genital to genital contact before, during or after sex with a partner.

Well I was just covering my bases. The report he gave me said an igm test was done after the 3 month mark. Do you think it was actually an igg test? I did not have lesions in the groin but continue to have sore throat and enlarged tonsils for 4 months after encounter. I had an hiv test at 6 weeks through health department that consisted of viral load and antibody. It was negative. Also gonorrhea and syphillis test were negative. I did have 4 lesions on groin and two of them were viral warts and two were skin tags. The two that were warts were not identified as condyloma. Could it be hpv of the mouth? I had protected sex, but unprotected oral sex where I performed.

the herpes igm test is a very flawed test and we never recommend is use.

your igg was negative 3 months post possible infection.  no reason for more testing from that encounter.

did you have any symptoms or were you just covering your bases?
