Herpes tests false negatives

Hi,

I made out with a random girl I met in a bar and after 2 days I started getting itchy/tingling sensation around my lips. I immediately did a blood test (Igg) and came out negative. I was told that I should wait for 4-6 weeks for antibodies to form. I did two more tests after this. Both Igg. One after 12 weeks. and Another after nearly 6 months. Both came negative for HSV1 and HSV2. I have done my tests at Planned Parenthood and Camino Medical Group in Northern California. Can 3 tests be negative?

I don't get visible bump on my lips. But I do get itchy burning feeling around corners of my lips. Sometimes there is redness. Also tip of my tongue hurts when my lips are burning. I have had these symptoms once or twice each week for almost a year. I am going through a significant stress for last few years.

Is it oral herpes because my stress level is keeping the virus active?

What are the other possibilities than herpes to cause my conditions?

thanks.

doesn't really matter how much stress you have. Herpes isn't going to cause these symptoms this often.

Thanks Grace,

I am planning to see a dermatologist or ENT soon.

It was particularly interesting that you commented about the frequency of the reactivity. Yes, I have constant itchy/burning feeling at least few days of every week since last year. I may be a hypochondriac. But stress level in my life has been significantly higher for last 2 years. Would you say that even with elevated stress level, its unlikely that herpes reactivates this frequently?

thanks again.

You are testing negative consistantly. It's time for follow up with an ENT specialist to try to figure out what is going on.  Herpes would not reactivate this frequently for a year anyways which is just 1 more reason why it's not likely that hsv1 is the cause of symptoms.
