Is it possible I have herpes but none of my sexual partners do?

Hi, I have a question about herpes.
Nearly 4 years ago when I was 16, I got a real bad vaginal infection & with it I had a fever, it hurt to pee, I was very swollen down there & I had 4 canker sore ulcerations on my inner lips. I went to the clinic & my doctor told me it looked like herpes.. But how if I were a virgin. I didn't have sex until I was 18 so I figured it was a bad infection from me wiping from back to front since I were a child.
She gave me medication & couple days later it was gone.

I seriously forgot about it because I truly didn't believe it was herpes at all. Afterwards including today I have never experienced that again. I've kept myself extremely clean & wiped the right way since then lol.

The thought recently came back to haunt me. I have had unprotected sex with two serious boyfriends , one I'm still with & although they've never complained of having issues down there (both tested for stds) I'm still worrisome. I mean I have had sex with my previous bf unprotected sooo many times I fail to believe tht if I had it he wouldnt have gotten it. & my current bf we've had nothing but unprotected sex too so I'm just confused..

I'm calling my clinic tomorrow for a test just to be sure but what do you guys think? & No more unprotected sex for me !!

Yea, the main reason I fear herpes is because of the fever. I know fever comes with infections but I rarely hear of one with a vaginal infection, but I'm getting tested Tuesday so I'll see I guess..

But thank you guys, especially you Grace. I feared coming on here & being judged but you guys treated me better than that doctor did. I feel much better after having someone to talk to & if I did have it at least I know it's not the end of the world. I'll definitely update when the results are in!

many things can cause ulcerations in the vaginal area but the most common are herpes and fungal infections.  There are also several viruses that can cause them too that aren't std related as well as allergic reactions and even wheat allergies/chemical sensitivities.  at this point, unless they reoccur, no way to know what caused them then but you know it wasn't herpes.

Each person has different outbreaks.  It isn't so easy to answer that question.

You know yeast infections or even bv can cause problems.  Anything really and that is why we tell you to seek out a provider to work with you for proper testing and STD testing as well.

Oh, & if it wasnt herpes, what other infection do you think it could've been? I know you aren't a doctor but I just want some insight. I have to wait until next Tuesday to be seen :(

So how often can outbreaks happen?
Personally I wouldn't be too worried if I had it being that it's been years since that incident & it hasn't bothered me since then, like i haven't had any vaginal problems at all.

no, not necessarily. herpes really isn't as contagious as most folks assume it is.

you and your partner should be discussing herpes and getting tested for it. You can transmit hsv1 from the oral area to the genital area as well as hsv2 from genitals to genitals. It's typically not a part of routine std testing and is something you both should be aware of.

Yea, your right. If I did have it wouldn't my partners show symptoms or test positive for it? Because I've had unprotected sex with both for over a year, well when I was with my exboyfriend & including my boyfriend now. Wouldn't they have something?

if you had never had any sexual contact prior to your symptoms then  obviously it wasn't herpes going on. Many things can cause issues in the genital area. It's unfortunate that they didn't do any testing at the time so that you wouldn't still be worrying about it now :(

A visual diagnosis of herpes is wrong 1/3 of the time which is why proper testing is so important.
