Is this Herpes?

About 8 months ago i noticed a single pimple on my penis shaft. It healed and was not sore or itchy.I travel alot to asian countires and have alot of sex protected and unprotected.About 7 months ago i got blisters on my penis shaft that were really really sore,i saw a doctor in the philippines and he wasnt sure if it was herpes or syphillis. I went to see a doctor recommended to me and he took a swab and looked at it under a microscope, he told me i had choncrain and not herpes. Choncrain comes from a girls throat and after oral sex is on my penis and also if you rub your eye u transfer it and it becomes red eye. It went away but after masturbating they came back but not as sore, i went to a doctor here in australia and he swabbed it and the results came back as herpes. After that test and about 6 months or 2 blood tests for all std's i am negative for herpes. The doctor cannot explain why i have the symptoms and why the swab came back positive and two blood tests came back as negative. The problem is im not circumstised and now when i masturbate the skin around the end of my shaft gets dry and once the blisters come they break and the skin splits and then they become scarred, could anyone explain perhaps what this condition is?i plan to go back to the philippines to see this expert who has worked in the field for over 20 years as he can swab me there and look at it and confirm what it is.

Have you asked your provider about topical creams for the foreskin issues you are having?

How long were you on the zovirax ( I assume that's really what you were given, either that or valtrex ) before you had a herpes blood test done?

Also a point i forgot to add is, i know about the arguments for being circumstised and i am 35 and although i wish i was done when i was born my children are also not done. The problem i have is when erect my foreskin in extremely tight and thin. That is what first make me tear was either the lack of lube or just the skin so tight that any pressure in the wrong direction would make it tear, or it could be a combination of both. thanks for the warning about the benefits about the pros and cons, also any info i read is always evaluated and investigated before i make any decision, perhaps one day soon when i am ready i will just get it done. I think the first thing to worry about is the blisters i have then the cut. i dont think being cut will make any difference to being prone to std's.

Hi thanks for the responses, Firstly i am not from the Philippines i am Australian and anglo saxon or a white hetro male. I do frequent the Philippines around 4 to 8 times per year. Chancroid was what i was diagnosed with by a doctor in the Phil and was treated with medication. The pain from the Chancroid blisters i am led to believe is more painful than the herpes blisters. I have an outbreak now and they have popped and they are extremely painful.Tomorrow i plan to have my blisters swabbed again. I was given zantrax which is subsidised by my government under the medicare system but have stopped taking them when my 2 blood tests returned a negative for hsv2, i am positive to hsv1 and i have read that you can have symptoms from hsv1 on your penis. Also last year i suffered a tear on my foreskin where it joins from under the eye of my penis and it tore during sex from the joint under the hole to the bottom of my penis head, it can be sore sometimes if i dont use lube or a condom. I think these last blisters have appeared after masturbating 3 days ago. I usually coat the blisters and surrounds a few times a day with Betadine. I was planning to be circumstised but am worried about the pain although i endured the pain of my foreskin tearing on 2 occasions the first rip was during sex the second was during oral sex and my partner was giving hand relief.Extremely painful and alot of blood but after i think 1 week the pain just disappeared. My penis is quite scarred from teeth marks and also from my high sex activity. I understand protected sex is important and also now i think lube will be included more often that not. If i have hsv2 fine id prefer not to as would any normal person but to find the actual cause of these blisters is now becoming a priority.I hope to keep you all informed of my outcome which should take maybe 1 week. The reason i mentioned that i would travel back to the philippines to see a doctor was this particular doctor works in a sex tourist area (i dont travel there for sex tourism my business is in the area it is conducted but i do participate in sex with numerous partners while there) so being experienced in STDs in the front line for so long gives me confidence in his diagnosis. This is a doctor who can swab and look at it and tell me the std. I think most doctors in my country would struggle to even tell me what something like Choncrain is.thanks to all and i look forward to reading any input you have to offer.

While many studies have shown a decrease in certain STDs based on being circumcised, there are still mixed studies and viewpoints, even in the medical world, as to the benefits and risks of circumcision, so please truly know what you speak about. To advise someone on a board like this is really not what we're here to do - a medical doctor would be the one to advise of considering circumcision...

You've had a + lesion culture for herpes. That means it's very likely you do have herpes ( only way you wouldn't would be if it was clerical error ).  At this point I recommend that if you need the peace of mind, next time you have symptoms, go and get them cultured and typed again.  Not everyone will test + on the blood tests so lesion cultures and typing are the only way to know they are infected. No reason to return to the philipines, any provider anywhere can help you with these issues in your genital area.

No reason to get circumsized too unless you want to.

Lube, lube and more lube for masturbation :)

I believe chancroid is what you meant you were diagnosed with before?  It's a bacterial infection that is a std. Did they treat you for it?

I've asked you before to please not just cut and paste from other websites as replies. If you do, you really should be also providing the link to the website the info is coming from so that folks know that is what you are doing and what your source is. thank you.

i think what you need to do is have your penis circumcised.. and lessen the masturbating thing and having unprotected sex for awhile,. observe for a week or two what will happen, though some tests came negative and one came positive it doesn't mean you don't have or you have herpes.. better to observe it for a while, schedule yourself to circumcision, 'coz it's really important to be circumcised, it will lessen those problem of yours. your from the Philippines??

anyway, here are the signs and symptoms that you could watch out for, (if you have herpes)

When a person is infected with genital herpes, symptoms do not begin right away. It usually takes two weeks after becoming infected to begin developing signs and symptoms (known as a herpes outbreak), although this incubation period can be as short as one day or as long as a month. However, not everyone infected with herpes has early symptoms. In fact, it is common for people to have no symptoms with the initial infection -- but they can still spread herpes!

A person who does have early symptoms of genital herpes may have a variety of symptoms that vary in severity. Some of these early signs and symptoms include:

•An itching or burning feeling in the genital or anal area
•Flu-like symptoms, including a fever, headaches, a general ill feeling (malaise), and muscle aches
•Swollen glands
•Pain in the legs, buttocks, or genital area
•Vaginal, anal, or urinary passage (urethral) discharge
•A feeling of pressure in the area below the stomach
•Painful urination.

Within a few days, sores (also called lesions) show up where the virus has entered the body, such as on the mouth, penis, anus, or vagina. Sores can also show up on a woman's cervix or in the urinary passage in men or women. The sores are small red bumps that may turn into blisters or painful open sores. Over a period of days, the sores become crusted and then heal without scarring. All told, the time period from the beginning of symptoms is usually around two to four weeks.

hope this helps... hmm,, by the way,, if your from the philippines,, well,, hi! kababayan!
