You've had cold sores in your mouth? More than likely those were canker sores that were occuring. And I say normal because the majority of people in the U.S has HSV1 which generally occurs on the lip. More than likely, you probably won't have it frequently, most people get it once or twice a year.
"normal"? I've had cold sores inside of my mouth..but never ON my lip...its is embarrassing...its my first time having it ON my lip....does that mean i'm going to have outbreak on my lip frequently?

Of course it is going to go away...around 7-10 days...but eventually it will come back again. If you got a cold sore before, then there is no worries about you having it on your lip, since it is "normal." So do not kiss or give oral while you have the sore present...wait until it is completely gone.
