Single blister on lip

I noticed a single painless blister on my lip 24 hours ago.  I believe that it developed after trying to rip skin from my lip with my teeth two days and pulling skin of my lip manually a couple of days ago because of chapped lips.  However, I was really suprised to see a blister develop. As I stated, it is a single painless blisterin the center of my my lip, not along the edge or corner of my mouth.  It doesn't appear to be spreading and it isn't red or particularly swollen around the blister.  I was wondering if the could be HSV-1, though it is painless and doesn't look like it will ruprture anytime soon. I have never had a cold sore that I remember and I have been in a monogomous relationship for aver two years and my partner never exhibited cold sores.  Could this blister be a result of something other than HSV-1?

Did you ever think your symptoms were from licking and biting your lips??

A blood test will only tell you your herpes status; it won't tell you that your symptoms are in fact herpes. When you have active symptoms, that's when you should get the area swabbed/cultured. Although again, sounds like your symptoms are from a bad habit, not herpes necessarily.

Also, realize that 50-70% of the adult population has oral herpes; it's incredibly common!

I recently had the exact same happen to me.  Chapped lips which were agitating me so I kept on licking and biting them till I noticed a small blister, 3 days ago.  It shed some skin, but it's not cracked open, and it's not oozing nor is it getting any bigger.  I'm still trying to figure out what it is. Did you ever find out what you had?  I'm 28 and never had a cold sore in my life! Most likely I'll see a doctor for a checkup and full blood workup.  Will post my findings soon....

The best thing to do is to follow up on this with your provider if it concerns you. It could be herpes, it could be trauma from pulling off the skin or several other things.
