Symptoms are different from before

Hi,

I know Grace has already answered my question but in the past few days I've had symptoms I've never had before. I've thought I have herpes for a while due to vaginal pain but after being told by about 5 different doctors it didnt seem like herpes I decided to let it go. But around 2 days ago, it was really painful to urinate or touch down there at all. And when I looked using a mirror there was a small painful spot type thing. I had spots down there before but they were very different, I was told they were swollen glands. Anyway, I went to the docs today and was told that this spot also looked like a swollen gland and she didnt swab it because it seemed like no fluid was going to come out. But since I left the doctors today, all the muscles in my legs got really sore and I got a bad headache - they are still sore now. I also feel like there is a balloon inflating in my stomach like as if abdominal glands are swollen. The thing is, im convinced its herpes, I dont know what else it could be but the docs are convinced its not and wont swab me. And blood tests are free in the UK but they wont offer me that either, I have asked many different doctors and they say I cant have it. What can I do? I feel lost and kind of trapped.

if you are going to continually worry about herpes, both of you getting tested to see who has what is a good way to see if those fears are merited or not don't you think?

Do you guys mean get my ulcer tested? I can't afford the money to get tested for genital herpes so I'm not gonna bother with that one. Plus, my doctor advised me against it. The thing is, I usually get ulcers on my gums due to biting them by mistake when eating, but with the ulcer I have just now I don't remember doing that. And I had a swollen gland. So I think it must have been due to some sort of infection. I'm just hoping it wasn't herpes. I just want to know the likelihood of passing it on if it was herpes and whether I should talk to my boyfriend about this. Thanks.

Why worry and go the "what if" route when you don't even know if you have herpes? Get tested and go from there!

I didn't get a test, my boyfriend and I have talked about this a lot and are both happy the way things are. Obviously it's something I would think a lot more about before being with anyone else in the future though. Do you think I should mention anything to him about my ulcer? Or would it just cause unnecessary worry? What are the chances I passed it on if it was herpes? Thanks.

Hi there,

My question this time is about transmission of oral herpes to the genitals.

I quite often get ulcers on my gums and I've never really though much about it until the other day when a friend said it might be herpes. I have one of these ulcers now and the thing is, I've given oral sex to my boyfriend while I've had an ulcer before, and again recently when I had the current ulcer. I feel really bad because I had absolutely no idea that it could be caused by herpes and now I'm so worried that I've given him genital herpes. It also makes me think that loads of people must have herpes because if I didn't know the ulcers could have been caused by herpes, then the chances are other people don't know either. I'm just not really sure what to do, should I talk to him about it or just leave it and make sure I never give him oral while I have an ulcer again? I know he's really sick of me talking about herpes so I'm not sure I should bring it up. What is the best way to handle this situation? I think it's likely the current ulcer I have is caused by herpes as I also have a swollen gland just under my chin on the left hand side. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Hi there,

So today i went to the docs to get swabbed for herpes and she asked me to point to the areas where i was sore so i had to touch my vagina. Following this, i didnt wash my hands and i touched the door handle on the way out the door and a pen when i signed a form for my prescription. Now im worried that if i had virus on my hands i could have passed it onto these objects and infected other people who touched them after me. I feel awful. It just slipped my mind. How likely is this? Thanks

the type specific herpes igg blood test isn't free in the UK and you can't get it at the gum clinics. You need to seek out a private doctor and pay for it out of pocket.

it's most helpful when you just keep adding onto your original post.

I will seek a support group and a dermatologist, thanks so much. The vaginal symptoms are gone now so I probably can't get swabbed so that leaves me with getting the blood test. But I'm not sure I can deal with all the false positives and negatives which come with it. And I've been refused a blood test at the doctors and at the GUM clinic, but I really want one now. So I'm not sure what to do. I wouldn't be so concerned if it wasn't for this muscle pain and I've felt really feverish - this morning I woke up covered with sweat. I just got rid of pretty bad thrush, could that give me muscle pain? Also, last year I had genital warts, wouldn't herpes have shown up with it? Or does it not work like that. I'm struggling to find somewhere which will give me a blood test, but I need to know. I think the main thing which is concerning me about all this is that me and my boyfriend had an argument a few weeks ago and he said if I have herpes he wont sleep with me ever again because he doesnt want to catch it. So I feel like im wasting my time in my relaionship at the moment because if I find out I have it I'll have to break up with him. Sorry to ramble.

William you really need to stop asking such questions.  Those pains can be anything.  If you aren't sure how to answer the question please don't post.  Thank you.

Totalidiot:  In the future please reply to your orignial thread.  We ask for that to be done when you use the read before posting.

If you are having problems you need to see an STD clinic that will swab it.  You don't need fluid for a culture.  At this point there isn't much we can do here to diangois you and that isn't the point of these forums.

Look for a local herpes support group in your area and contact them for some help on what doctors to see that know whats going on.  Being that we are in the US (Grace and I) we are limited on the knowledge for the UK's area.  The GUM clinics to my knowledge are really good.  You may want to seek a dermatologist as well in your area for an eval and maybe they will swab and culture.

It could be hereps or not. But to confirm you will need to get test very soon by swab or blood test to be sure.

Good luck
