Now revently I have  been getting cuts on my vagina I had one doctor tell me it was due to fissures? But now recently after a visit to a new obgyn she is telling me its not fissures it is type 1 herpes bit I have been on medication for almost 2 weeks and I am still itching constantly where as the cream I was given for fissures has helped my bottom  I really need help : (

I am not itching as much as I was during the day but at night I wake up itching bad and I have just been using ice packs which helps relieve the itching. Still have the psper cut like tears though. I had sex last night for the first time since I tested positive and I woke up very sore and raw feeling on my inner thighs and bottom and I just noticed that I also have a white spot on my clitoris and several tears on my vagina

So that means you have a genital HSV1 infection. However, for the reasons above, it remains likely that it wasn't the main cause of your symptoms. It is very rare for herpes to last so long while taking valacyclovir.

How are your symptoms doing now? Getting any better?

Yes I tested positive for Herpes type 1 when my obgyn did a swab test on one of the cuts I had on my bottom and of my vagina.

Please answer my questionn:  Did you or did you not have a positive test for HSV1 from your genital area?  Until you give a clear answer, I cannot help you and will not try.

Yes I was just wondering if because I have HSV1 in my system when the swab was taken wouldn't that have made me test positive no matter what? Also why would the medication not be helping me at all if it is herpes?

"because I do have HSV1 wouldn't that come up in any testing?"

That's a confusing question. You said it DID come up when you were tested: "she tested the cut on my bottom and vagina and that both came back as type 1 herpes".

If you did NOT have a positive swab test from the inflamed area, that changes everything I said above. That would mean herpes has nothing to do with your genital/anal symptoms, even if you have had a positive blood test for HSV1.

I was prescribed valacyclovir I am not sure of dose but I take it twice a day and I have been taking it for 2 weeks now but it isn't helping me. I am curious though that because I do have HSV1 wouldn't that come up in any testing? I just really don't believe that is my problem on my vagina.  I was tested for yeast infection everything came up negative which is another thing that is confusing I was just tested for herpes 3 months ago by a different obgyn and came back negative? I have been in a faithful relationship for almost 11 years now we have 2 kids together. The itching started 3 years ago after I had my 2nd son and I had the essure put in shortly after he was born.I did research on fissures and I feel that it fits my symptoms completely and read that it can be caused from a decreased level of hormones such as estrogen which I am thinking may be my problem since I have not been on birth control in 3 years now what do u think?? I really just need to find answers it is really frustrating I can't sleep I wake up 2 or 3 times a night with the itching and then I am so sore not to mention my sex life has been ruined due to the pain from the cuts down there.he can barely touch me and I will have another cut I just don't know why this is happening to me.

Oops -- I missed the first of those replies.

Genital HSV1 rarely recurs so often. It is very unilkely herpes is the only problem or that it has been present continuously for 3 years. So I doubt it's the only problem.

My advice is that you return to the specialist, especially if s/he is an infectious diseases expert. (If not, talk to your doctor about seeing an ID specialist.)

I would love to help further, but really can't. All this is much too complex for a nonprofessioal community forum. But I urge you to keep at it; insist on seeing whatever specialists you need. This problem definitely can be controlled. It's just a matter of getting the right diagnosis and treatment(s).

Thanks for the additional information.

So you clearly have a genital HSV1 infection. The question now is whether that's the only thing wrong, or maybe herpes plus something else, such as a severe yeast infection.

Probably the medication you were prescribed is acyclovir or valacyclovir (trade name Valtrex). What's the dose and how long have you been taking it? How long has it been since your genital irritation/fissures started? What is your recent sexual history, i.e. in the past month or so, and during the month before your symptoms started?

My obgyn referred me to a specialist for my bottom because she said it was discolored it was pinker or more of a red color during my exam and I had thought I had hemrroids because I had a few bloody bm and it was painful to have a bm. After seeing the specialist for my behind she was the one who said it was fissures and that it was most likely the cause to my itching and the cuts. I was also put on a hydrocortisone cream that has helped me with my bottom. I told my obgyn about this and she said it was not that it was herpes and that she tested the cut on my bottom and vagina and that both came back as type 1 herpes. The medication she prescribed me really has done nothing for me though. I still itch non stop and have the paper cut like tears that are very painful and irritating. The only thing I have noticed that the medication has done for me is bring my skin color back. I was very red down there and now I am back to a light pinkish color.

My obgyn did do a swab testing on one of the cuts she said it tested positive for the type 1 herpes but it is so confusing because my fiance has never had any type of sores on his mouth or genital area? I have had cold sores before so I don't doubt that I have type 1 herpes I just don't see how that is whats causing my issues down there. The itching started 3 years ago after I had my 3 year old and had a procedure done so that I couldn't have any more kids it is called an essure. Anyways the itching started shortly after that and I itch constantly all day and night

Hmmm...  I have to doubt that herpes, especially HSV1, explains your symptoms. Can you say more about how your doctor came to that diagnosis? Did you have a swab test from the fissures that showed HSV1? Or a blood test that may have been positive for HSV1? If a blood test was done, see if you can find and tell me the exact results for both HSV1 and HSV2 (the kind of test and the numbers for each virus type).

Also say more about your recurrent vaginal itching symptoms. How often do these episodes happen? How long does each one last? Have you been treated for possible yeast infections? Do you ever see any blisters or sores other than the fissures? Where exactly are the fissures (vaginal opening, labia minor, elsewhere)?

I'll try to help more if you can fill in some of these questions.
