Valacyclovir Resistant HSV?? persistent symptoms please help

I got infected with genital herpes about 5 months ago, from unprotected oral sex from a striper.... I took valacyclovir 1 g twice a day within 24 hours of the initial episode, and kept taking it until I got better, which took a while (a month almost)....
My symptoms (ulcers, itchiness and pain/discomfort) have been recurrent and very persistant since. I think I have had symptoms 3-4 out of every 5 days since day one.
The other day I had sex with my wife and right after felt my glans swollen and irritated. I think mechanical trauma brings it up....
Then in February I had surgery (tonsillectomy) and during the recovery I had a horrible recurrence, I guess I was under the stress of the surgery, etc adn my inmune system was down. My foreskin became soooo swollen, I could barely retract it. After a few days of the swelling not going down taking the valacyclovir, I decided to apply OTC steroid cream, which relived the inflamation very quickly.
Decided to take valacyclovir 1 gram for a hole year to decrease the recurrances, BUT, even with 1gr twice a day for more than a month now,  my symptoms are not completely gone. There is always persistent low grade swelling/redness of the glans, discomfort after having sex, itchiness and small superficial ulcers over my glans that come and go and are not very noticeable unless looked on closely.
Is it possible that my herpes is resistant to valacyclovir. BTW, I took brand name only for the first episode (I think), but I have been taking generic ever since.
Please Help

I reviewed your original post on this and really at this point it's doubtful you have hsv1 genitally. even if you do, it's not the cause of all these non-stop symptoms.

at this point you need to be pursuing a proper work up. I recommend a dermatologist at this point.
