have i got it?

2 days after sex (oral/normal) without protection (stupid i know) i got a sore throat and general strong flu like symptoms, aches, fever, sweats, enflamed neck glands, etc..

after a brief glance round the web i noticed a lot of sites mention herpes causes flu like symptoms.. i've no sores etc.. but there was possibly a day where around the base of my penis looked/felt a little red (gone now). the girl mentioned an ex had herpes.. (thanks for telling me afterwards) but she's not been tested.. 5 days after, my 'flu' has subsided but my neck is still enflamed. i know sometimes worry can bring these things on/lower your immune system but i'm pretty concerned..

Would herpes cause strong flu symptoms without the sores? my doc recons i should take tamiflu as it sounds like swine/seasonal flu. hope it is! am of course goin for a sexual health screen but have been recommended to wait 2 weeks as things wont show before this.. so in the meantime.. i'm gettin a little worried. :( any advice would be very helpful. also.. any other stds cause these kinda reactions?

Thanks in advance!

Most times the flu, really is just the flu.

I assume you also swapped spit with this person which is a terrific way to spread influenza as well as other common upper respiratory illnesses.

sorry one last question grace.. if i develop strong flu symptoms yet never show any classic herpes symptoms could this still be herpes? or would this tend to lean more toward a respitory illness?

thanks in advance!

at this point no way to know if this was just an upper respiratory type illness you picked up , oral herpes or something else. You haven't developed any genital symptoms yet.

following up for other std's is the best next course of action.

not bothering with tamiflu, of the opinion not to take medicine unless i have to and starting to feel better so..

do you think these symptoms could be herpes? either type? general flu symptoms for 3 days without sores etc? and how long would you wait to be tested?

and, broadly speaking, if the glands in the throat are inflamed does it mean the infection is in the throat/face and inflamed glands in your groin means the genitals are infected?

i don't want to infect anyone else obviously (as kissing and skin touching can transmit) but i also don't want to have an embarrassing conversation with a 'kinda regularish' partner i don't need to have.

thanks for your reply btw! sorry for so many questions. just a bit worried is all.

5 days into things, too late for tamiflu too. At this point you are feeling better anyways so why bother?

unless you had a throat culture to look for herpes, not much else you can do at this point.  continue to follow up with your provider if your neck continues to be inflammed.
