hey, so my ex who i haven't seen in about roughly 10 months just called me last week and told me she had an outbreak, her boyfriend at the time got tested and didnt come up positive, so she decided to pin it on me since i was the only other guy she's had sex with. It confused the F#%! outta me, I dont mess around like that if i knew i had it i would've said something. I've never had symptoms or breakouts so i told her i was sure i didnt have it, but after a few days i decided i'd rather be 100% sure and go get tested. I went to the preventive medicine clinic, got asked a few questions, drew blood and urine samples, got checked down there and the doctor that seen me didn't find anything that looked like signs of herpes then he told me, that he couldn't really test to see if i had herpes unless i had a lesion he could wipe with a swab in order to test it. is this true?

no, it's not.
you need to find a doctor that will order a blood test for herpes type 1 and type 2, IgG. You don't want IgM testing, just IgG.

A swab is the most accurate and direct way to learn if someone has herpes, but it requires an active lesion. The blood test can be performed if enough time has passed (3-4 months after suspected infection), since those who have genital herpes will get a positive result for the IgG test. Once you are infected, "it stays" in your body.
